It’s been a day of many details for the upcoming remake of Resident Evil 3- from the great details of the game being expanded on the original, to the not too great stuff about what the game will unfortunately lack. In addition to all that, it also seems that one aspect the series is looking to lean heavy into is its sound design.
In the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK (issue 171, Feb 2020), Producer Peter Fabiano talked about how the sound will play an even bigger part in this game than the previous remake, Resident Evil 2. With a bigger city and with players being stalked by various enemies, including the iconic Nemesis, paying closer attention to the sounds around you could make a big difference. Fabiano said around that “every corner you take could be a duel to the death.” Sounds like we’ll have to be listening closely for footsteps in this one.
“Sound is very important, especially in horror games, and we are always working to ensure that sound design adds to that feeling of tension.,” he said. “We’re using similar sound designs from Resident Evil 2, and even some of the same sound designers.”
Resident Evil 3 will release on April 3rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also release with the multiplayer focused Resident Evil: Resistance across all platforms.
