Resident Evil 4 Remake Kicks off ARG Leading up to Launch

The alternate reality game hopes to offer up some backstory leading into the events of Resident Evil 4.

Leading up to the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake later this month, Capcom seems to have kicked off an alternate-reality game to garner hype for the launch. Caught by IGN, players can visit the secure agent portal to get an alert about the kidnaping of Ashely Graham, which essentially kicks off the plot of Resident Evil 4.

At the portal, players will be able to see a number of different messages with top-secret evidence. At the time of publishing, the ARG still seems to be in its early stages. However, more answers will likely be discovered as more puzzles are solved.

For context, an alternate-reality game, or ARG as it is most commonly known, is a game that takes place in the real world. Gameplay revolves around finding clues by solving mysterious puzzles scattered throughout the Internet, as well as in the real world. ARGs have a notable following in the independent horror scene, but major companies have also often used the concept for the marketing of major releases.

Resident Evil 4 is slated to release on March 24 for PC, PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X/S. The Xbox platforms have also started allowing pre-loading the game, requiring around 67 GB of storage.
