Resident Evil 7 Ships 2.5 Million Copies, Exceeds 7 Million Demo Downloads

The sequel is huge success according to Capcom.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 has turned out to be quite the success. The publisher announced that 2.5 million copies have been shipped (not sold, mind you, though Capcom considers it the same thing) while the first person survival horror title witnessed more than 7 million downloads for its demo since releasing on January 24th.

The company noted that, “With the new RE ENGINE, a proprietary game engine developed in-house for this title, Capcom has pushed hardware specifications to their limits.

“As a result, the title garnered attention worldwide, with the demo version exceeding 7.15 million downloads — a record for the series — and the game selling more than 2.5 million units.”

Critical reception has also been fairly positive with most publications praising the return to the series’ roots, the excellent VR treatment, strong characterization of its core antagonists and the robust first person mechanics.
