Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 7 will be joining the list of games that will be supporting HDR on Microsoft’s Xbox One S when it releases next year- in a new press release, Capcom confirmed that they will be supporting HDR output on Xbox One S, while on the PS4 Pro, they will be supporting HDR and 4K resolutions.
“The full game will be compatible with the PlayStation 4 Pro, allowing the immersive gameplay to be experienced in high-resolution, luxuriant 4K with rich visuals only HDR can deliver,” explained Capcom. “Similarly, with HDR support on the Xbox One S, players can enjoy gameplay in Full HD that offers realism that can almost be felt.”
While HDR output for Resident Evil 7 is unlikely to be supported on standard Xbox One systems – since standard Xbox One systems don’t support it – this press release’s wording does leave the question of HDR support on older PS4 systems, which do support the standard now thanks to a firmware update, up in the air. Will Capcom support HDR on PS4 and PS4 Slim? Or are they reserving that for PS4 Pro (and Xbox One S) owners only?
We’ll hopefully find out as we move closer to Resident Evil 7‘s release date in January, on Xbox One PS4, and PC.
