Resident Evil Village, which is technically the eighth mainline title in the franchise, was revealed weeks ago for next-gen platforms. Development is about 60 percent done but there are still plenty of questions before the game’s launch in 2021. For instance, who’s story is coming to a close as the reveal trailer indicated?
In a recent interview with Famitsu (which Alex Aniel translated on Twitter), Capcom producers Pete Fabiano and Tsuyoshi Kando offered a few answers. No, it didn’t specify who exactly the statement refers. However, Capcom did say that, “We’ll let you decide. But know that Village is the sequel to Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, and serves as the conclusion to its story.” So one way or another, the horrors that begun with Eveline will come to a close in this game.
As for the werewolves seen in the trailer, who are they exactly? Capcom was still tight-lipped on their exact identities but did note that, “It’s an enemy. They will face off against the protagonists.” The use of “they” seems to indicate an enemy faction of sorts, which then makes us wonder about the apparent vampires that have also appeared.
Resident Evil Village is out next year for Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC. Reports have indicated that it will be one of the longest games in the series yet, with a heavy emphasis on exploration. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
