With its intriguing premise, focus on horror, and its approach to progression, Housemarque’s upcoming roguelike third person shooter Returnal is a game that many people have had their eye on for a while. We’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer than expected to get our hands on it though.
Sony recently took to Twitter via the official PlayStation account to confirm that they and Housemarque have made the decision to delay the game’s launch. Returnal will now release about a month and a half later than its previous March 19 date, with the game now set to launch exclusively for PS5 on April 30. The tweet states that Housemarque is going to take the extra time to “continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect” from their games.
Given the fact that we’re still in the midst of a pandemic, it’s not much of a surprise to see a game get delayed (there’s been no shortage of those already this year, from Hogwarts Legacy to Riders Republic to The Lord of the Rings: Gollum). In fact, all things considered, it’s a pretty small delay.
Until then, you can check out some combat-focused gameplay footage through here.
