Scalebound – PlatinumGames Discusses Possibility of Reviving Project

"If the opportunity arises, it's something we would love to return to," says studio head Atsushi Inaba.

PlatinumGames stoked the curiosity of many when it launched a teaser website called “Platinum 4”. This culminated in the launch of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Kickstarter which has amassed over $1 million in funding as of this time. The developer confirmed that this was the first of the “Platinum 4” announcements, with three more on the way.

So naturally, it seems like a good time to ask if Scalebound is one of those projects. Many fans will remember it as an Xbox One exclusive developed by PlatinumGames to be published by Microsoft. It was an action RPG focused on hack and slash mechanics, dragon riding, and much more. Unfortunately, it would be cancelled.

Eurogamer Portugal recently spoke to studio head Atsushi Inaba about Scalebound’s return and he said, “Again, it is a good question! But that was an intellectual property that belongs 100 percent to Microsoft. Whatever happens with this project, we can’t really do anything with it unless Microsoft leaves us. But it’s a game that we fall in love with and love, if the opportunity arises, it’s something we would love to return to.”

If nothing else, this at least indicates that Scalebound is not one of the “Platinum4”. There are still a number of possibilities left, from more details on Babylon’s Fall to Bayonetta 3, so stay tuned. As for The Wonderful 101: Remastered, it’s currently planned to release in April 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4.
