Sea of Stars: Dawn of Equinox Update Goes Live, Bringing 3-Player Co-op, Combat Improvements, and More

The update brings three-player co-op, changes to the prologue, a bonus cinematic, difficulty presets, a Speedrunner Mode, and much more.

Upon its launch last year, Sea of Stars was widely regarded as one of the best retro RPGs of recent years, but developer Sabotage Studio isn’t done with the game yet. The Dawn of Equinox update was announced for the game earlier this year, and it has now gone live, bringing a host of new features and improvements.

In spite of being a free update for all players, it’s quite sizeable. Chief among its additions is that of three-player co-op, with three players now being allowed to play the game locally as different characters. The update has also added a Speedrunner Mode (via a new Relic), new difficulty presets, a brand-new cutscene, and a revamped and expanded prologue sequence.

Meanwhile, several combat changes have also been introduced, including the addition of the new Mystery Locks mechanic, changes to how Combo Points work, testing damage types to reveal locks, being able to begin certain encounters in different ways, and more. Check out the trailer below for more details.

Sea of Stars is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. A free expansion titled Throes of the Watchmaker is also coming next year.
