Continuing to build the hype for the upcoming launch of Sea of Thieves, Rare released a brand new behind the scenes video for the pirate adventure which shows off the NPCs in the game, and how the player will be able to influence the world.
Design Director Mike Chapman and Software Engineer Topher Winward take the viewer through the video, showing off and discussing the NPCs which will populate the world. In the full game, they will all have their own unique appearance and backstory. The team can also dynamically change their dialogue after release, perhaps to reference in game events. These dynamic systems can also change objects, for example not allowing another player to find a treasure map that you already took.
Their dialog systems can also influence the lore of the world, having the stories of adventuring players recorded in books, which other players can find and enjoy.
