Microsoft’s Game Pass service has emerged as one of their biggest business models going forward. The service is, in retrospect, one of the first in what seems to be a new norm (or attempted norm, anyway) of emerging subscription services. One of the first games that launched with the service, day and date with its retail release, was Sea of Thieves. And, as they say, sometimes the first never leaves, as Rare’s game continues to do well on the service.
In an interview with Gamereactor, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg confirmed that the game has been big hit on the service. It’s managed to continue being a top seller on Game Pass even over a year later, no doubt because of the continued support and updates the game got post-launch and the community that’s developed around it.
“Sea of Thieves has been one of our top-performing titles in Game Pass,” said Greenberg. “It was one of our first titles that we launched day one into the service, and you’re right, it’s built a huge community both on the PC and console, and I think Game Pass has been a big part of that.”
Sea of Thieves is available now on Xbox One and PC, and you guessed it, is also still available on the Game Pass service for all subscribers.
