Eidos Montreal has a very leaky ship when it comes to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. On top of the game’s announcement trailer being leaked before its official reveal, today’s trailer also suffered the same fate. Thanks to ResetEra member NeoRaider, some more information has emerged on the game’s story, main villain and campaign length courtesy of a Spanish magazine.
The game sees Lara obsessed with getting revenge on Trinity but her friend Jonah (who was seen with Lara in the second game) wants her to do the right thing. He’ll constantly advise Lara to save people throughout the experience. As for the puzzles, they’ll be more epic and deadly but won’t necessarily have more complex mechanics. There’s a catastrophe that hits the city in-game, which is essentially a tsunami, but when the game starts, Lara is in Cozumel, Mexico seeking an ancestral key. Expect to run into the game’s main villain Doctor Dominguez sooner or later.
Described as having the best action scenes in the whole trilogy (no vehicles, sadly), Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s weapons will be more stealth-focused. Hunting and equipment are important, especially when out in the wild and discovering tombs. Players can expect the main tombs to be more “classic” but they’ll be much more hidden and dangerous. Lara can also freely dive into the water but oxygen must be managed carefully.
The main story will last 13 to 15 hours without playing the side missions. Developed by Eidos Montreal with Crystal Dynamics collaborating, Shadow of the Tomb Raider won’t wrap up the current saga. Instead, there will be further games that serve as independent adventures with the current Lara Croft. Classic Lara Croft won’t be returning.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is out on September 14th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. What are your thoughts on it so far? Let us know in the comments below.
