Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Not Running 4K/60FPS On Xbox One X After All

Those shadows might not look so smooth after all...

Following on from previous reports that Square Enix and Eidos Montreal were going to have the latest entry in their Tomb Raider reboot series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider running at full 4K/60FPS on Xbox One X, it seems that it was too good to be true after all.

Square Enix clarified in a statement to WindowsCentral that the game has the option to run at 4K with 30 frames per second, or at 1080P with 60 frames per second, in order to allow users to customize their experience to their preference. Both settings feature HDR, and plenty of other goodies to make the image pop on the X.

While the news is disappointing, unfortunately this compromise is not without precedent. Recent hits within 2018 that offer players the choice between visual fidelity and gameplay fluidity on the enhanced consoles such as God of War and Monster Hunter World haven’t been hampered commercially. Of course, PC players will only be held back by their rigs, but no word on PS4 Pro yet.
