Skydance New Media is Working on a AAA Marvel Game Led by Uncharted Creator Amy Hennig

Hennig is writing and directing a story-focused action-adventure Marvel game with "a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe."

There’s been no shortage of excellent games based on Marvel properties in recent years, and with the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns confirmed to be in development, there’s obviously going to be many more in the years to come. Another new one just got recent revealed, in fact, and it’s one that is probably going to be worth keeping an eye on.

Skydance Media has announced Skydance New Media, a new interactive division of the company focused on game development, co-founded by Amy Hennig (best known as the creator of the Uncharted series) and Julian Beak (who previously spent over six years as a producer at EA). The development studio aims to “pioneer a new category of story-focused interactive entertainment” and deliver “a groundbreaking convergence of games, film, and television.”

Skydance New Media’s first project, in fact, is going to be an action-adventure narrative-driven game based on a Marvel property. There’s no word on exactly what property the game is going to be based on, but it’s clear that it’s putting the bulk of its emphasis on being a story-driven adventure, and given that, one would assume that it’s going to be single player (or at least primarily single player). Skydance’s announcement describes the project as “a narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.”

“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game,” says Hennig, who is also part of the writing team for Square Enix’s Forspoken. “The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”

Jay Ong – executive vice president and head of Marvel Games – adds: “Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance. Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”

“We are enormously excited to be working inside the Marvel Universe to craft a rich narrative of our own,” says Beak. “Jay and his team at Marvel Games are helping us make the best experiences imaginable.”

There’s no word on what launch window this game is targeting or what platforms it will launch for, but it’s clear that the game is currently in the very early stages of development, so we likely won’t be hearing any new concrete details about it for a while.

Recently, a rumour claimed that Sony is working on another new unannounced Marvel game for the PS5 and that it will be multiplayer-focused. Read more on that through here.
