Sony is Allegedly Working on a Multiplayer Marvel Game for the PS5

It seems like Spider-Man and Wolverine are just the beginning where Sony and Marvel's partnership is concerned, according to a new rumour.

The last couple of years have made it abundantly clear that Sony has every intention of leveraging massive Marvel licenses to develop first party exclusive content for PlayStation consoles. Insomniac has already put out a couple of huge successes based on Marvel properties with Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and with Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 now in the works, they clearly don’t intend to stop anytime soon.

In fact, it’s possible that Sony may be looking at other Marvel properties as well. In a recent Xbox Era podcast, the site’s co-founder Nick Baker said that according to his sources, Sony is working on another new game based on a Marvel property besides the ones that have always been confirmed, and that, interestingly enough, the new game (which is planned as a PS5 exclusive) will be a multiplayer game.

Baker didn’t go into details about what the property is or what sort of a multiplayer experience the game will be, but he did speculate (and he made it a point to emphasize that this particular bit is purely speculation) that the game could be in the works at Insomniac. We do know that the studio has been hiring for a PS5 multiplayer game, so there’s that.

Of course, whether or not this game really does exist isn’t concrete information right now, and it’s probably going to be a while before Sony says anything about it if it does. Given the success Sony has found with Marvel properties though, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them working on more of them.

Either way, we’ll keep an eye out for new updates, so stay tuned.
