Sledgehammer Discusses Storytelling in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

Technology+Research=elevated storytelling

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is due later this year, and the Sledgehammer developed entry, which has been in gestation for at least three years, looks like the first legitimate attempt the Call of Duty games have made at making a step forward since Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II. But where Black Ops II (which had a similar near-future setting) made more sweeping changes to the series’ brand of storytelling, Advanced Warfare seems to so far focus on modernizing Call of Duty’s gameplay.

This new developer diary from Sledgehammer Games, fronted by Creative Director Bret Robbins, paints an entirely different picture for us, however. Sledgehammer seems to be hard at work to elevate the storytelling in the Call of Duty games as well, using research and modern technology to bring us a new kind of blockbuster storytelling experience.

Advanced Warfare is due out in November this year, and it follows last year’s largely disappointing Call of Duty: Ghosts. Will the development team manage to revive the dying brand? We’ve got a few months before we know for sure.
