Sniper Elite 5 Debuts on Top of Weekly UK Retail Charts

Rebellion's stealth WW2 shooter tops the UK charts, though a likely increase in digital sales and its Game Pass availability have resulted in lower physical launch sales than its predecessor.

Sniper Elite 5 was the biggest new video game release last week, and unsurprisingly, it topped the weekly physical sales charts in the UK, as per data provided by the Gfk (via GamesIndustry). Thanks to a presumed increase in digital sales and the game’s availability via Xbox Game Pass, however, its launch physical sales are down, managing 64% fewer physical sales at launch than what Sniper Elite 4 managed when it released in 2017.

The majority of Sniper Elite 5’s physical sales during the week were on PS5 and PS4, with just 8% sales coming on Xbox- though again, that’s largely down to its Game Pass availability, as well as the fact that the ratio of digital sales is generally much higher on Xbox, courtesy of the Xbox Series S.

Meanwhile, PS5 games (and the PS5 itself) have maintained solid sales numbers. Horizon Forbidden West drops from the top spot, which it occupied last week, to No. 2, while Gran Turismo 7 has jumped up to fifth place, thanks to a 109% boost in sales. Beyond that, plenty of Nintendo Switch titles continue posting strong numbers, including the likes of Nintendo Switch Sports, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and more.
