A NeoGAF user recently spotted Spanish retail site, Xtralife.es, that has the Xbox One available for pre-order and listed for a price of €599.99 or approximately $772.
The number is most likely a placeholder until the official price is announced by Microsoft. Interestingly enough, it seems pretty much in line with Amazon.de’s placeholder price for the PlayStation 4, which topped the best-seller list for gaming. It is currently listed at €599 or approximately $772.
According to the NeoGAF user, the Spanish retail site is correct about 99 percent of the time. Of course, that’s without providing any hard evidence, so we have to take it as hearsay at this point (which we won’t). But it’s interesting how the next generation consoles are retailing for pretty much the price of a mid-tier PC.
When the PS3 launched it costed between $499 to $599, while the Xbox 360 launched for between $299 to $399. It would be interesting to see how consumers would react if the placeholder prices for PS4 and Xbox One were even reasonably accurate. Till then, stay tuned for official announcements from Sony and Microsoft.
