It’s now been over five years since we last saw a Splinter Cell game. Sam Fisher made an appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands earlier this year, which led to speculation that the stealth franchise might be making comeback, and when leaks by Walmart Canada mentioned a Splinter Cell sequel, most people began to believe that an announcement was more or less inevitable at E3 2018.
Well, E3 2018 came and went, and thought most (if not all) other games in the Walmart leak did end up getting announced, there was no sign of Sam Fisher. So the question is- is Splinter Cell never coming back? Well, according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, there will probably be something at some point in the future- but not just yet.
When asked by GameSpot about a Splinter Cell sequel, Guillemot said, “So I will disappoint you because I don’t have an answer to give you exactly, but each brand we have, and each character, we want them to live in the long-term, so one day you will see something, but I can’t give you more details.”
That’s not a no, then. Maybe at The Game Awards later this year? One can always hope, right?
