EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be receiving its long awaited The Battle of Scarif update today. Along with the Age of Rebellion coming to Supremacy and Instant Action, it also adds Scarif as a new location. However, perhaps more interesting is that this will be the final content update for the title.
In an official post proclaiming the game to be “complete”, creative director Dennis Brännvall stated that, “Developing characters, worlds, and experiences set in this amazing galaxy that is Star Wars is an honor, and it has continued to be a remarkable, challenging, and ultimately rewarding journey for the entire team. Knowing that we have a passionate community of millions of players and Star Wars fans – just like ourselves – along on the ride, is the greatest inspiration we could ever have.”
The announcement comes off the heels of DICE announcing the end of support for Battlefield 5 which will receive its last major update in June. While the sentiment around the game is less than ideal, especially considering its launch issues and problems with content, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been more positively received. After its disastrous launch in 2017, the development team did a good job supporting the game with new maps, modes, characters and mechanics.
The Battle of Scarif, for example, will have plenty to engage with, as Scarif and Crait arrive for Heroes and Villains. Co-op is also being enabled for offline solo play, allowing one to play with AI bots. As for what’s next for DICE, time will tell but at least Star Wars Battlefront 2 is ending on a high note.
