DICE’s Battlefield 5 has received questionable support post-launch, marred as it was by delays and the ill-timed release of Firestorm. While things improved with War in the Pacific and Into the Jungle, the developer has announced that the last content update will release this Summer. The current plan is to release it in June but it could be pushed back further given the work-from-home situation.
After the update releases, players will receive Company Coin weekly to unlock any gear that was missed. Some initiatives like the Friday Night Battlefield servers and Throwback Thursdays will also be returning, and Community Games will see new updates. More work will be done to combat cheating but future patches will only focus on critical issues.
While it’s somewhat disappointing – especially when DICE continues to support Star Wars Battlefront 2 – it’s not that surprising. EA could be looking to allocate resources to the next Battlefield, which will likely launch in fiscal year 2022 for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Stay tuned for more details on that in the coming year or so.
