First confirmed to be in development a couple of years ago, Star Wars fans have been anxiously waiting for details on what Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment’s game based on the beloved property is going to look like, and at the recent Xbox Games Showcase, we got our first look at it. Titled Star Wars Outlaws, its reveal trailer (and its name) made it pretty clear that the game will be dealing with the seedier elements of the Star Wars universe, and Ubisoft has also revealed brief details on the game to elaborate on that.
Billed as “the first ever open world Star Wars game”, Outlaws is set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with the Galactic Empire doggedly pursuing the destruction of the Rebel Alliance, and criminal syndicates thriving all across the galaxy.
Players will play as “cunning scoundrel” Kay Vess (played by Humberly González), who – along with her furry companion Nix (played by Dee Bradley Baker) – will “take on high-risk, high-reward missions from the galaxy’s crime syndicates as she seeks the means to start a new life”. That mission, interestingly enough, will be to “pull off one of the greatest heists the Outer Rim has ever seen.”
More details on Star Wars Outlaws will be revealed at Ubisoft Forward later today, with the company set to showcase gameplay walkthrough. Fellow Massive Entertainment title Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will also receive an update, while Ubisoft will also be showing off the likes of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, The Crew Motorfest, and more.
