The history of third-person shooters is rife with underrated titles and forgotten gems. Let's take a look at 15 more here.

While first-person shooters arguably command more attention these days – especially with Xbox and PlayStation arguing over Call of Duty – the third-person shooters of yore can’t be discounted. Whether it’s identifying more with your character on-screen, having a better view of the action, or a different gameplay loop, here are 15 more third-person shooters you should play.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2

Before Electronic Arts, live service, and tie-ins with every new film, there was LucasArts’ Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Published in 2005, it featured first, and third-person perspectives with four multiplayer modes and 24 maps. Of course, along with a campaign of 18 missions, there was Galactic Conquest, where players led their fleet through the galaxy and conquered or protected planets.

Upon encountering an enemy on a planet, it would shift to combat, resulting in massive battles. With the addition of Heroes, new modes like Hero Assault, and more content than its predecessor, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is still a strong benchmark for Star Wars titles.

The mecha title can be claimed for free on PC until February 10th. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is also confirmed as the next free EGS game.

Marvelous First Studio’s Daemon X Machina is now available for free on the Epic Games Store. It can be claimed from now until February 10th, after which Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will replace it as the next free offering.

Set in the future where a strange event caused AI to turn against humans, players utilize mechs called Arsenals as part of The Outers to fight them. Along with customizing their avatar, players can also modify their Arsenal in numerous ways. Battles are fairly straightforward and taking down an enemy allows for scavenging its various parts and weapons for future skirmishes.

Though it’s also available on the Nintendo Switch, the PC version supports 4K resolution and up to 200 frames per second. Cross-save is also supported between both platforms, allowing Switch players to jump into the PC release without losing progress. A follow-up for Daemon X Machina is apparently in the works but Marvelous First Studio is also working on a “completely new large-scale RPG.”

The third-person mecha game, made by Marvelous, will be available for PC players to keep for free on the Epic Games Store.

Originally a Nintendo Switch exclusive, the mecha combat game Daemon X Machina was released on PC back in 2020. For the uninitiated, it is a third-person mecha action game developed by Marvelous, featuring some great mission variety and addictive gameplay, as we mentioned in our review.

People who never tried the game out when it was released on PC now have a chance to do so, as Daemon x Machina is the next offering of free games on the Epic Games Store next week. The game will be replacing Mighty Polygon’s first-person puzzle game Relicta, which is available to claim for free this week.

Daemon X Machina offers a lot through its fast-paced mecha gameplay and does a solid job of filling up the void left by FromSoftware’s Armored Core series- which, if rumors are to be believed, is getting another entry soon. Daemon X Machine was produced by Kenichiro Tsukuda, who worked on Armored Core, and it convincingly inherits the feel, albeit in a bit more colorful manner.

Daemon X Machina will be available to claim for free on Epic Games Store from January 27 to February 3.

Play the mech game anywhere with the latest update.

Ever since the Souls series took off big time for FromSoftware and they began focusing pretty much entirely on that, it left something of a mech hole in the world where their previous moneymaker, Armored Core, used to be. Not a lot of contenders have stepped up to fill said hole, but one that did last year was Daemon X Machina, a very solid mech title that came to the Nintendo Switch and then eventually PC. It’s continued to get updates since then and now there’s another that means you can take it anywhere.

As detailed on XSEED’s official website, there is now full cross-save between both versions of the game. You can use Steam Cloud to share the data between the platforms, so you can play on your PC in all its high settings glory and then take the game on the go when you wish.

Daemon X Machina is available now on Switch and PC. There’s been no word as of yet on the game coming to other platforms, but the developer is said to be hiring for a “high-end” project for the new consoles.

The mecha title celebrates its one year anniversary with some new content.

Last year we were blessed with something you don’t get very often any more in a mecha-based action game, Daemon X Machina. The game was developed by many former Armored Core developers, which its influence showed. The game released on Switch originally, but did eventually make its way to PC via Steam. Now, a year later, the team wants to celebrate with a new update.

The 1st Anniversary update includes a decent amount of new content. It’ll include the Grossfeiern Arsenal suit, the Grandemon Outer suit, three new Arsenal decals, three preview backgrounds and a new order where you fight a strengthened Colossal Immortal Eclipse Q. You can check screenshots of the new content below, as well as read about full details at the game’s website through here.

Daemon X Machina is available now for Switch and PC. The 1st Anniversary update is set to come sometime in November as update 1.4.0.

Marvelous is a company whose name you don’t hear a whole lot, but ultimately fill a pretty specific niche of titles for those looking for things with a certain Japanese flavor. So, that should come to no surprise that the company is reporting success on Nintendo’s hybrid, the Switch, due to its portable nature.

In their latest shared financial report, Marvelous highlighted that their business, which includes their games sales from PC to mobile to console, was up around the board even though their overall income saw a slight dip. They highlighted their Switch releases, specifically Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Rune Factory 4 Special and Daemon X Machina, all of which were said to have done very well on the system. Unfortunately, they didn’t do quite well enough for Marvelous to provide sales numbers, but we’ll take their word for it.

For the remainder of the fiscal year that runs to March 31st 2021 they are looking to launch Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town in the west, as well as releases of Rune Factory 5 and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin sometime by the end of 2020 in Japan.

Marvelous took many of us by surprise when it announced that its third person action title Daemon X Machina would be coming to PC. Visual and performance improvements are expected, especially given the platform’s added power over the Switch. Game Spark recently interviewed Marvelous USA/XSEED Games about the same and discovered some interesting new details.

A wide selection of framerate options is available, including 30 FPS, 60 FPS, 120 FPS, 144 FPS, and even 200 FPS. Resolutions up to 4K are supported along with ultra widescreen support (though options aside from 16:9 will feature black bands on the screen edges). In terms of settings, players can adjust the anti-aliasing, texture quality (with a high resolution texture option available), depth of field, shadow quality and more.

Mouse and keyboard support is also included. However, it seems that collaboration DLC, namely The Witcher 3, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Eureka Seven High Evolution are not included. Other DLC available is available though and players can expect the same content available in the current Switch version.

Daemon X Machina releases on February 13th for PC. Check out our review of the Switch version here.

This one came out of nowhere.

Last year, we got the closest thing to a new Armored Core game in the form of Daemon X Machina. The game was different in some key ways, but it was a return to form for the Japanese-style mecha genre. It was originally released only for Switch and included some cool stuff, like crossover costumes and skins. Now, though, it seems the mechs are taking off to other horizons.

Out of nowhere, the game came up for a listing on Steam, which you can see through here. It will release later next week, and is published by XSEED Games (Nintendo published the original release on Switch outside of Japan, while Marvelous themselves published the Switch version in that region). There were no announcements, press releases, or teases given, making this quite the robotic shadow drop.

Daemon X Machina is available now on Nintendo Switch, and will release on PC on February 13th. There is a special 20% discount if you preorder via Steam. For our take on the game, you can read our review through here.

Daemon X Machina came out earlier and scratched an itch that we often don’t see too often in the non-Japanese mainstream. The game features good old fashioned mecha action of giant robots reeking havoc. The game has also had several collaborations with multiple franchises that’s stayed in Japan. One such one just got announced, and it’s definitely not what you expect.

Two new DLC costumes will come that are based on The Witcher 3, specifically Geralt for a male customization and Ciri for the females. The other crossovers have stayed exclusive to Japan, but it seems these are live now in North America, so everyone can get in on the Wild Hunt of the Witcher.

Daemon X Machina is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt collaboration costumes are live now across all regions. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is also available for Switch, so you could potentially get a double Witcher dose.

Tougher Colossal Immortals have also been added into the mix.

Marvelous’ Daemon X Machina has received a new update as part of the post-launch content roadmap. Version 1.2.0 brings a new boss Zelcroa to fight along with some new development equipment. There are also stronger Colossal Immortals to be fought including Gun Fort RT: Omega and Volt RT: Omega.

Last month had a fairly meaty update with Versus Mode which allowed players to partake in 1v1 and 2v2 battles against each other with Ranked and Custom Match options. There was even a Duel feature added to Co-op Mode for up to four players. Collaboration DLC with anime franchises like Eureka Seven and Code Geass have also been confirmed.

Daemon X Machina is currently available for the Nintendo Switch – you can read our official review here. Though it didn’t exactly set the world on release, the development team continues to churn out update. December should be even more interesting with more Reclaimers for co-op, new weapons and armor added. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
