Over 270,00 units of the Japanese fighting game, based on the Tsukihime visual novel have been sold worldwide as of March 2022.

French Bread-developed fighting-game Melty Blood: Type Lumina has got off to a solid start, with its gameplay, unique mechanics, and solid netcode having received plenty of praise. It seems the same has been reflected in the game’s sales as well.

As of March 2022, the game has surpassed total sales of 270,000 units worldwide (via Siliconera). In contrast, during its launch weekend in Japan, the game sold around 11,600 units on the Nintendo Switch, and 18,833 units on the PlayStation 4, totaling 30,497 retail copies (excluding digital sales) for the week.

One might think the numbers are not very impressive- however, given that the fighting game series has been predominately very niche among the community, the sales numbers are certainly decent.

Earlier, the game received two free DLC characters on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.. Melty Blood: Type Lumina will also be making its EVO debut this year, having been included in the tournament’s lineup of games.

The video showcases how the red-haired mage from the Melty Blood universe is going to play, as she joins the roster on January 13.

It seems Type-Moon and French Bread are not yet done with the announcements, as they recently dropped a video showcasing how their upcoming character Aoko Aozaki in Melty Blood: Type Lumina is going to play in-game. It shows how Aoko as a character is going to look and perform against the others in the roster, as a complete match is put on a show for players to check out.

The trailer dropped just days after Type-Moon announced another new character, Dead Apostle Noel joining the game. Both the character will be joining the game on January 13 and are free for owners of the game.

The trailer shows Aoko going head to head against Tohno Shiki, in what seems like the new stage the game will be getting. The video does a good job of showcasing Aoko’s battle style, who looks like a versatile character having a lot of long-range magical attacks.

Check out Aoko Aozaki in action down below.

Available for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, Melty Blood: Type Lumina is a fighting game developed by French Bread and Type-Moon, and published by DELiGHTWORKS, and is a part of the long-running Tsukihime series.

Delightworks, best known for popular free-to-play mobile game Fate/Grand Order, has been purchased by Sony's music label Aniplex.

Japanese anime and music production company Aniplex, which is owned by Sony music, has announced the acquisition of Delightworks (via Anime News Network). Delightworks is best known as the developer of popular free-to-play mobile tactical RPG Fate/Grand Order.

As part of the acquisition, Delightworks will be spun off from the company, and will then function as its own mobile development division as a wholly owned subsidiary. Production will change hands as the leadership changes, but the game will continue to be developed by Delightworks. Meanwhile, the company will also continue to work on projects outside of game development.

Interestingly, former Street Fighter producer and head honcho Yoshinori Ono left Capcom earlier this year, to then be appointed as president and COO of Delightworks. Read more on that through here.

Of course, it has to be mentioned that Sony and PlayStation have been eyeing the mobile space for some while now and have been making moves to establish a larger presence there. Whether or not Delightworks will have an important role to play in that remains to be seen.

The former Street Fighter producer heads to mobile games.

Today, Delightworks announced on its website that it has appointed Yoshinori Ono, longtime former Capcom developer and Street Fighter producer, as its new president and COO as of May 1st (via Gematsu). Akihito Shouji, Delightworks’ founder and current president, will become the company’s chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) on the same day. The move marks the end of Ono’s 30 year career at Capcom, where he served as the producer of Street Fighter for over a decade. In Ono’s time on the franchise, he oversaw Street Fighter 4 and Street Fighter 5.

Ono’s departure from Capcom isn’t surprising. He announced that he would be leaving the company last year. The announcement came shortly after rumors surfaced that Street Fighter 6, which had been planned for a 2021 release date, had been pushed back after internal testing and that Ono, supposedly the game’s director, had been removed from the project.

“On May 1st, I will be moving from Capcom to another company. I’m going to be working at a studio that is a little different from the one I’m used to. I’m also going to be looking at development from a different perspective than in the past,” Ono said on Twitter. Ono also said that while there “may be some distance” between him and the fighting game community for “a while,” he’s eager to get involved again when he can.

Upon hearing the announcement, Japan-based analyst Dr. Serkan Toto noted that Delightworks, the developer behind smartphone smash hit Fate/Grand Order, is one of Japan’s last privately-owned large-scale mobile studios. Toto believes that Delightworks might have lured Ono there with the promise of an IPO.

Street Fighter 4 revitalized both the series itself and the fighting game genre. Ono’s Capcom legacy would have been impressive if he’d just worked on Street Fighter, but he also worked on Devil May Cry, Marvel vs. Capcom, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, and Breath of Fire, among others. It’s odd to see him at a mobile studio, but it will be interesting to see what he cooks up while he’s there.

Delightworks is one of the few remaining mobile gaming companies in Japan that are scaled but still private.

This is the developer behind Sony's smartphone mega hit Fate/Grand Order.

My guess is they lured Ono with the prospect of an IPO, but what's strange is he became COO. https://t.co/BiuS1JJo16
