<p>After coyly noting that it wasn&#8217;t yet supposed to announce <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2 &#8211; Definitive Edition </em>for PS5, Larian&#8217;s director of publishing, Michael Douse, has said there are no plans for <em>Divinity: Original Sin 3</em>.</p>



<p>&#8220;There aren&#8217;t currently any plans for a new <em>Divinity Original Sin 3 </em>game, but once we are ready to show what we&#8217;ve been working on, we will,&#8221; he said on Twitter in response to another user. Which seems innocuous, but he didn&#8217;t acknowledge <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-trademarks-reveal-new-image-thats-strikingly-similar-to-the-game-awards-statue">the recent trademarks for <em>Divinity</em></a>.</p>



<p>You see, there&#8217;s a statue that The Game Awards has been teasing for weeks, leaving many befuddled about what its designs could relate to. Some thought it was<em> Diablo 4</em>, others believed it was <em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/the-game-awards-mysterious-statue-game-is-allegedly-a-good-one-says-schreier">God of War</a></em> or <em>The Elder Scrolls 6</em>. Bloomberg&#8217;s Jason Schreier noted that it was none of these things, but that <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/the-game-awards-mysterious-statue-game-is-allegedly-a-good-one-says-schreier">the announcement would excite many people</a>.</p>



<p>Afterwards, trademarks of the <em>Divinity </em>name and a symbol that resembled the statue&#8217;s multi-armed design emerged. These were registered by IHDE and Partner Rechtsanwalte, which usually handles Larian&#8217;s trademarks. Of course, it&#8217;s very likely not <em>Original Sin 3</em>, but that doesn&#8217;t mean it can&#8217;t be a new title in the same universe, especially considering the franchise began with <em>Divine Divinity</em>.</p>



<p>We&#8217;ll find out tomorrow at 4:30 PM PST when The Game Awards airs, so stay tuned. As for <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2 &#8211; Definitive Edition</em>, it could be a shadow-drop for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. 										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>While <em>Baldur&#8217;s Gate 3</em> has been a major success, Xbox Series X/S and PS5 players will have more to look forward to from Larian Studios. As discovered by Gematsu, <a href="https://pegi.info/search-pegi?q=Divinity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PEGI</a> rated <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2 &#8211; Definitive Edition</em> for current-gen platforms. The release date is anyone&#8217;s guess, but given the proximity of the rating to The Game Awards, perhaps it will be a stealth drop.</p>
<p>Available for PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox One, the <em>Definitive Edition</em> offers numerous improvements, over 130,000 words of new story content, more quests, an improved Epilogue, rebalanced combat encounters, and much more. Subsequent &#8220;gift bag&#8221; updates added new content like powerful new armor sets called <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-the-four-relics-of-rivellon-dlc-out-now-graphic-novel-announced">the Four Relics of Rivellon</a>, stronger summons, <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-new-gift-bag-offers-combat-randomiser-stronger-summons">a combat randomizer</a>, and more.</p>
<p>It remains to be seen if the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 editions will have the <em>Sir Lora</em> DLC from the outset or any new features and content. You may have to commit to a few playthroughs for the full picture but it&#8217;s worth it in the end, especially with the incredible aesthetics and soundtrack.</p>

<p>Larian Studios&#8217; <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> is out now for Nintendo Switch in one of the more surprising announcements from Nintendo Direct. Along with four player online co-op, it also supports Steam cloud saves. So if you want to transfer progress over to the Switch version and continue playing, that&#8217;s possible.</p>
<p>Check out the trailer below, which showcases how the game looks and plays on Switch. First released in 2017 for PC, <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> would be <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-runs-at-native-4k-on-xbox-one-x-dynamic-4k-on-ps4-pro">ported over to Xbox One and PS4</a> last year. It was also updated to the <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-is-now-available"><em>Definitive Edition</em></a>, bringing a host of improvements, new story content, and tweaks to present owners.</p>
<p>The Switch version is the <em>Definitive Edition</em>, which means you receive all current DLC &#8211; including <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-trailer-showcases-sir-lora-and-his-undead-steed">the new companion <em>Sir Lora</em></a> &#8211; for free. Future DLC, like the developer&#8217;s Gift Bags, will also be free. <p>Larian Studios achieved a lot with <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-review"><em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em></a>, delivering what&#8217;s one of the greatest role-playing games of all time. It wasn&#8217;t an easy journey though. As Larian founder Swen Vincke revealed during a panel at the Game Developers Conference, the original plan was to have the game&#8217;s four Acts contained in a single map.</p>
<p>Currently, the game has a map for each Act. The first Act takes place on Fort Joy, the second on Reaper&#8217;s Coast, and so on. However, these were all meant to be part of a single map. Even more interesting is that this would have been the map of the human lands, with other maps dedicated to the other races.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.pcgamer.com/divinity-original-sin-2s-locations-were-initially-all-part-of-one-big-map/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PC Gamer</a> reports Vincke as stating, &#8220;Once we started realizing that we were in trouble and that we weren&#8217;t going to be able to make everything that we planned on, we had to make cuts. Originally <em>Original Sin 2</em> had a map for the human lands, one for the dwarven lands, one for the undead, basically for each of the races present in the game. What you&#8217;re looking at here is a map of the human lands, which contains the city of Arx, Driftwood, and Fort Joy, all on one map. Which is essentially the entire game. That gives you an idea of the level of cuts that we had to do.&#8221;</p>
<p>This also affected the stories of the Origin characters as well, since each of their stories would take place in their respective race&#8217;s location. &#8220;Each of these maps had a lot of action going on, and when we cut it, we suddenly started cutting into what was supposed to be the real estate for the origin stories.</p>
<p>&#8220;So that meant that we had to go and change our origin stories again. This constant ping-ponging between adapting to the fact that we were going to be late and having to make cuts had an impact on the story. The fact that it had an impact on the story meant that the rest of the production was going to be delayed. We struggled quite a lot with that, but eventually managed to have it under control.&#8221;</p>
<p>Despite all of the content cutting, <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> turned out incredibly well. It&#8217;s story-telling, quest design, and combat are some of the best in the genre. The game received a <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-overhauls-chapter-3-adds-party-inventory">fairly large overhaul</a> <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-is-now-available">with the <em>Definitive Edition</em></a> and also released for Xbox One and PS4. Larian Studios is still updating it with free content, but also has <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-developers-next-project-is-already-in-development">another project in development</a>.</p>

<p>Even though the base game <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-review">is over a year old now</a>, Larian Studios continues to update <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em>. The game&#8217;s <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-is-now-available"><em>Definitive Edition</em></a> has received a new patch, which provides new recipes, several fixes, and changes to combat notifications. There&#8217;s even a nice little fix for party members not running through surfaces like oil and ice, which deal no damage.</p>
<p>Those interested in the new recipes have quite a few to choose from, though they essentially boil down to making Static Cloud Arrows or Explosive Arrows. Given how statuses and elemental weaknesses work, even a few more options are enough to lend depth to the combat. Other new features include the ability to have more than 15 items in the barter window when using a controller.</p>
<p>One key fix has also been implemented for <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-trailer-showcases-sir-lora-and-his-undead-steed">Sir Lora</a>. He&#8217;ll now be ignored by Shriekers, which means you won&#8217;t have that much trouble keeping him alive in battles. <p>Larian Studios is already hard at work on its next title after the critically and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-made-85-million-in-revenue-according-to-superdata" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commercially acclaimed</a> <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em>. In a recent documentary by Gameumentary, CEO Swen Vincke revealed that the project is codenamed &#8220;<em>Project Gustav</em>&#8220;.</p>
<p>Vincke remarked that the project &#8220;blends the same things that we’ve been exploring all the time&#8221;. &#8220;It’s going to be narrative, systems, multiplayer, new things, new ideas,&#8221; he added. On the surface then, it doesn&#8217;t sound too fundamentally different from what the <em>Divinity: Original Sin</em> series achieves.</p>
<p>He does note that perhaps the &#8220;biggest stress&#8221; right now is &#8220;how can we make something that’s better than <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2?</em> How do we make sure that we don’t lose what was good and how do we know that we innovate on the things that people would not want to do again because they did it once and it was cool but they won’t do it twice, which is typically a trap that sequels fall into. But it’s fun. This is why you do this, right? You make new things, you explore new avenues of gameplay.&#8221;</p>
<p><em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> first launched for PC in September 2017 and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-review" target="_blank" rel="noopener">quickly garnered acclaim</a> for its combat, world design, quests, writing, and overall aesthetic. Larian Studios had been working to bring the title to Xbox One and PS4, which culminated in the <em>Definitive Edition</em> <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-is-now-available" target="_blank" rel="noopener">releasing for consoles</a> in August 2018.</p>
<p>This update also arrived <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-coming-to-pc-owners-for-free" target="_blank" rel="noopener">on PC for free</a> and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-definitive-edition-adds-130000-words-of-new-story-content" target="_blank" rel="noopener">made several improvements</a> to the writing, combat, character progression, and various other systems. Larian Studios hadn&#8217;t really hinted at another sequel or follow-up to the <em>Original Sin</em> series till now, so it should be interesting to see where <em>Project Gustav</em> goes.</p>

<p>Larian Studios has a reputation for quality, but it surpassed all expectations with <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> last year. Now, it&#8217;s making the <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-review">critically</a> and <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-made-85-million-in-revenue-according-to-superdata">commercially</a> acclaimed RPG even better with the <em><a href="https://gamingbolt.com/divinity-original-sin-2-enhanced-edition-5-reasons-to-revisit">Definitive Edition</a>,</em> which is now available. This marks the launch of the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game. However, the <em>Definitive Edition</em> is also a free update for current owners of the PC version.</p>
<p>Not only that, but they also receive free DLC in the form of <em>Sir Lora</em>, a squirrel knight companion with his own quest. When playing the game, current owners will be able to choose from Classic and Definitive modes. Save files from Classic mode aren&#8217;t compatible in Definitive mode so you&#8217;ll have to make a new character. If you had any mods for Classic mode, they&#8217;re incompatible with the <em>Definitive Edition</em>. The developer is working with modders to convert popular mods over to the <em>Definitive Edition</em> in due time.</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span class="bigchar">L</span>ast year was a year of classics like <i>Nier: Automata, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Hollow Knight</i> and so on. However, among the many games that made a surprising impact was <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i>. It wasn&#8217;t that fans didn&#8217;t expect the game to be great but to see it received so fantastically well among critics and even proclaimed as one of the very best games of the year was incredible. With <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> heading to consoles, Larian Studios is preparing the <i>Definitive Edition</i> which will be available as a free update to current PC owners of the base game. Though there&#8217;s plenty to help console players dive into the franchise, what will the <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> hold for current fans? If you quickly dropped the game last year, what&#8217;s changed that will help you get into it? Let&#8217;s start off first with&#8230;</p>
<p><b>Expanded Tutorial</b></p>

<p>Probably the biggest hindrance to anyone enjoying <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> is just understanding all the various systems at play. Forget what the best decision is or who will be the nicest companion. We&#8217;re talking about systems like Magic/Physical Armour, how to create certain status effects, chaining together skills and bonuses and so on. The fact that you&#8217;re thrown onto Fort Joy and expected to explore, gather your wits and understand the world, doesn&#8217;t help either.</p>
<p>The <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> aims to fix this with a new floor on the beginning ship. This is full of different characters who will familiarize you with the game&#8217;s mechanics, though once again, how deep the explanations go remain to be seen. So again, if you&#8217;re someone who played <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> and couldn&#8217;t quite understand what was going on (besides through trial and error), this tutorial should help you. Theoretically, that is.</p>
<p><b>Revamped Script</b></p>

<p>At one point during my playthrough with Sebille in Act 2, I was tasked with rescuing Saheila, the blind seer elf from Act 1. After the rescue, Saheila asked Sebille to become the heart of scions, the new Mother Tree in Act 2. Naturally, I disagreed with this approach causing Saheila and her crew to grow hostile. Another act and one Shadow Prince&#8217;s death later, Saheila was found alive (sort of) and asked me to kill the Mother Tree but also didn&#8217;t appreciate my killing her. To say the whole thing was a little muddled is a big understatement.</p>
<p>Whether the <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> fixes this or not, Larian Studios has assured fans that the end-game story has received a significant overhaul. Roughly 130,000 words of new story content have been added and the existing script has been cleaned up (and some parts rerecorded) to hopefully better explain the different motivations behind characters. Even the Epilogue is being improved though I&#8217;m still sceptical if I can actually travel the world with my companion once all the noise has died down.</p>
<p>Furthermore, I&#8217;m hoping that Act 3 and 4 have more quests, lore and interesting side quests like the first two acts. Though the change in pace to be more story-oriented wasn&#8217;t <i>bad, </i>it did make the locations from Act 3 onwards feel emptier in comparison, whether it the was numerous decisions and quests intertwining with each other or the sheer number of interesting stories to be experienced.</p>
<p><b>Rebalanced (and New) Encounters</b></p>

<p>Depending on who you talk to, <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i>&#8216;s combat could either be too difficult – especially in the early going – or too easy. True enough, once you hit a stride in Act 2 and start properly exploiting Ranger bonuses like high ground damage and skills like Jumping Shot (to say nothing of all the AP-granting skills), encounters generally felt easier.</p>
<p>This isn&#8217;t to say that overpowered builds won&#8217;t have a place in the <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> but for those who just want to play through at their own pace and experiment a little, encounters will become more engaging. Others are being rebalanced to properly ease players in before the really tough fights start cropping up. If that still sounds too intimidating or you want to forget combat entirely, a brand new difficulty called Story Mode will make the game easier.</p>
<p>Larian did mention new fights though. Remember that Void Kraken in Arx harbour in Act 4? That will actually be a proper boss fight now. So if you&#8217;re a veteran who wants new challenges, <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> – <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> will cater to you as well.</p>
<p><b>New Bells and Whistles</b></p>

<p>Just like with the <i>Definitive Edition</i> for <i>Divinity: Original Sin</i>, the <i>Definitive</i><i> Edition</i> for <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> has tons of little quality of life improvements and new features. The Journal has apparently been revamped to make it more useful &#8211; hopefully, it does a better job tracking your different decisions and quest progress this time. The game&#8217;s optimization for consoles will benefit the PC version as well so those struggling with the frame rate when fire and explosions are everywhere can expect a less jittery experience. There will be a new Party Inventory so you can examine the entire squad&#8217;s inventory at once as opposed to going through individual inventory screens.</p>
<p>Perhaps best of all is the music. Each of the Origins characters will be receiving their own theme and I can only hope that they&#8217;re as memorable as Lohse&#8217;s “Sing for Me”. Each theme potentially playing after a pivotal story point for the Origin character wouldn&#8217;t be too bad either but I&#8217;m not <i>that </i>picky.</p>
<p><b>Sir Lora</b></p>

<p>So <i>Divinity: Original Sin 2</i> was praised and criticized in equal measure for being grimmer than its predecessor. While there were some elements of comedy here and there, <i>Sir Lora</i> represents a more light-hearted quest overall. It focuses on a Squirrel Knight who&#8217;s being hunted by the Knights of Drey, an order of knights that herald the coming of the Great Acorn. Lora believes this to be apocalyptic in nature and thus seeks your help. Though Lora won&#8217;t be playable, he will be ever-present on top of his undead cat steed Quercus. If the reveal trailer was any indication, then Sir Lora could be one of the best characters in the game yet with his noble intonations.</p>
<p><i>Sir Lora</i> is part of free DLC for PC players while console owners need to pre-order the game to gain access. One could criticize Larian for not making this immediately available for console owners but honestly, even if it sold separately for $5 to $10, it would be worth picking up. Because the base game represents so much value across its 50-hour plus storyline that you&#8217;ll be hankering for more.</p>

<p><em>Divinity: Original Sin 2- Definitive Edition</em> brings the fantastic RPG to consoles this year (while also being a free upgrade for everyone who bought the PC version last year), but there&#8217;s one way in which the console versions will categorically not be &#8220;definitive&#8221;- they won&#8217;t have mods for now, which the PC version obviously will.</p>
<p>In the past, mods for console games were out of the question; however, <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/fallout-4-ps4-mods-bethesda-will-continue-to-push-them-on-all-platforms-to-work-the-same">thanks to Bethesda&#8217;s efforts</a>, they have become more normalized for PS4 and especially Xbox One this generation. And <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2</em> <em>may</em> support mods on consoles in the future, as well. Speaking with <a href="https://www.dualshockers.com/divinity-original-sin-2-xbox-one-mod-support/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DualShockers</a>, Larian Studios product manager Kieron Kelly said that Larian has looked into getting mods for the console versions of the game, and that the possibility for that happening is still on the table- so, this is something that may well happen in the future, once the game has launched, and Larian has addressed whatever immediate problems that throws light on.</p>
<p>So that&#8217;s good. <em>Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition</em> launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 31.
