The free upgrade, which offers improved visuals, 60 FPS gameplay and more, is slated to go live on December 22nd for PS Plus owners.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade hasn’t been getting the most positive reception, mostly because of the recent PC port. On top of costing $70 and being exclusive to the Epic Games Store, it has a myriad of performance issues with Digital Foundry’s John Linneman describing it as a “mess.” There is a silver lining, at least for those who redeemed the game when it was free for PS4 with PlayStation Plus – they can upgrade to the PS5 version on December 22nd.

This wasn’t originally an option and is more or less standard for PS4 titles on PS Plus that also have PS5 versions. However, subscribers who didn’t purchase the full game can now benefit from improved visuals, 60 FPS gameplay and much more for free. If that weren’t enough, Episode INTERmission which stars Yuffie Kisaragi in her own separate side-story is also 25 percent off.

For more details on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, check out our review here. Details on performance improvements for the PC port are still yet to be revealed so stay tuned in the meantime for any updates.

Digital Foundry reports that even with a GeForce RTX 3090 and a Core i7-10900K, the PC version has problems with its frame rate.

There was no shortage of controversy when Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade would be coming to PC exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Touting a $70 price tag without region pricing made things worse. But if that weren’t enough, it also seems that performance isn’t very good.

Digital Foundry’s Alexander Battaglia first tweeted about how, “RTSS does not seem to pick up the framerate issues really in Final Fantasy 7 Remake as far as I can tell. It is telling you the game is running at 60 when it sure as hell is not. PresentMon is not reflecting what is on screen.” He noted that this was observed in The Medium and No Man’s Sky OGL (aka OpenGL which was replaced later with Vulkan and provided significant performance gains).

Senior staff writer John Linneman corroborated this, noting that, “Alex sent his clips over for us to check out and, yeah, the PC port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is terrible. He captured this using an RTX 3090 + 10900k at just 1080p and it’s a mess. The smooth presentation was central to its story telling and this version compromises it.” Keep in mind that those specs are well and above the recommended requirements.

This isn’t the first troubled PC port for a game that Square Enix has ever released (and likely won’t be the last). However, a PC port has apparently been in the wings since the PS4 version’s demo first leaked. Even if actual development didn’t begin on the same until after the release of Intergrade on PS5, it’s highly contentious that the publisher would charge PS5 exclusive-level prices for this version.

Time will tell if these performance issues are across a larger user base so stay tuned. You can check out our review for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade here.

Launching on December 16th via the Epic Games Store, the PC port requires 100 GB of installation space. It also supports 4K resolution.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is coming to PC next week at last via the Epic Games Store. The official trailer can be seen here but those looking for system requirements are in luck. Check out the most recent tweet below for more details.

Overall, the requirements aren’t anything too crazy. Minimum requirements include an Intel Core i5-3330 or AMD FX-8350 with 8 GB of RAM and either a GeForce GTX 780 or Radeon RX 480 with 3 GB VRAM. Recommended requirements (based on a resolution of 2560×1440) include a Core i7-3770 or Ryzen 3 3100, 12 GB RAM and either a GTX 1080 or RX 5700 with 8 GB VRAM.

In both cases, you’ll need 100 GB of storage space for installation. The maximum resolution is 3840×2160 but it remains to be seen if other improvements are made. The lack of Nvidia’s RTX in the requirements seems to indicate no DLSS support but we’ll have to wait and see in the coming week. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is out on December 16th for PC.

The critically acclaimed remake, along with Episode INTERmission, will be coming to PC via the Epic Games Store next week.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is finally coming to PC via the Epic Games Store on December 16th. Based on the PS5 re-release, it includes the base game and the Episode INTERmission expansion along with visual improvements. Check it out below (along with our official review here).

Final Fantasy 7 Remake first launched in April 2020 for PlayStation 4 and garnered strong critical acclaim. It crossed five million in digital sales and worldwide shipments last August. Intergrade builds on it by adding Photo Mode, visual improvements like enhanced textures and different performance modes. Episode INTERmission brings a new story starring Yuffie as she attempts to infiltrate Shinra and steal some Materia.

Square Enix has yet to detail all of the PC-exclusive features but being able to play the game in native 4K/60 FPS seems a given. Stay tuned for more information in the coming week along with additional announcements from The Game Awards 2021.

The free upgrade option is available to owners of the physical and digital version on PS4. Episode INTERmission, which stars Yuffie, is also out today.

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is out today along with new story DLC, Episode INTERmission. If you own the PS4 version, then good news – the option to upgrade to the PS5 version is now available free. Simply head to the PlayStation Store and locate Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. Then choose the three dots next to the title which says “Upgrade for PS4 version owners.”

If you own the disc-based version, then you’ll need to insert the disc in order to upgrade. If you claimed the PS4 version through PlayStation Store, then terrible news – you can’t avail of the free upgrade. To see what improvements Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has to offer over the base PS4 version, head here.

Those upgrading from the PS4 version will need to purchase Episode INTERmission separately. Coming in at under 9 GB, the DLC stars Yuffie Kisaragi as she infiltrates Midgar to steal some powerful Materia from Shinra. Along with new Materia and summons, players will also contend with new enemies and bosses. Episode INTERmission costs $20 and is included with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 (which costs $70).

The DLC is currently available to pre-load worldwide and adds two brand new story chapters with Yuffie as the protagonist.

As big as Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be on PlayStation 5, its paid DLC Episode INTERmission is roughly a fraction of the size. According to PlayStation Game Size on Twitter, the story DLC is roughly 8.988 GB in the United States. While Europe is unknown, it’s 8.012 GB in Asia and Japan and seems to be separate from the main game.

The DLC content, which is currently available to pre-load, stars Yuffie Kisaragi as she sneaks into Midgar to steal some powerful materia from Shinra. Though capable of fighting at both close and long range, unleashing various ninjutsu in the process, Yuffie will also team up with Sonon who can help in Syngerized Attacks. Together, the duo will have to tackle bosses like Scarlet and Weiss the Immaculate.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is out on June 10th for PS5 players with current PS4 owners able to upgrade for free. Episode INTERmission will cost $20 separately though and is exclusive to the PS5 version.
