E3 2021 – 10 Things Players Disliked About It

After skipping a year, the Electronic Entertainment Expo made its return in grand fashion. Just like the good old days, we have multiple showcases and world premieres. However, not everything was a hit and even with current events taking their toll on the industry, there are still a few things that stood as relatively annoying (or were just outright hated). Let’s take a look at 10 of them here.

Strange of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin aka Chaos Reigns

You could point to other titles in Square Enix’s showcase as being disliked but Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is on top. This is a combination that should have made an immediate impression – Team Ninja of Nioh fame working on a hack and slash Souls-like set in Final Fantasy 1’s universe. Plus, it was a surprise announcement – it had to make an impact regardless. It certainly made an impact and unfortunately, it wasn’t quite what Square Enix had in mind. From the cheesy dialogue and meme-rific spouting of “CHAOS” to the unimpressive aesthetic and blandly designed main character, Stranger of Paradise garnered mixed reactions. And unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of it.

The trial went live on PS5 right after the debut trailer – surely the gameplay was solid, right? No sooner had fans downloaded it than they discovered the trial was corrupted and wouldn’t play. Square Enix would release an update to get it working and even then, impressions have been mixed. From what should have been a bright new debut to a floundering on all fronts, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin’s arrival has been painful to witness.

Multiple Final Fantasy Mobile Games Receive New Trailers

After a thunderous show by Bethesda and Microsoft, it’s time to turn our gaze towards the Square Enix showcase. Square Enix gave fans an extended look for PlatinumGames’ Babylon’s Fall as well as a Guardians of the Galaxy video game showcase. In addition to this, 3 new trailers have been revealed for Square Enix’s darling franchise, Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, the free-to-play battle royale received a short teaser trailer, and will be releasing later this year for iOS and Android. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius also received a new 5th-anniversary trailer, which showcased a bunch of legacy characters in this long-running franchise.

Lastly, a collaboration between War of the Visions and Final Fantasy titled War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius also received a short teaser trailer. All three of these trailers might sound interesting to veteran fans of the series, making it worth a look.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Trials of Mana Confirmed for Jump Festa 2020

Capcom won’t be the only publisher present at the upcoming Jump Festa 2020 in Chiba this month. Square Enix has confirmed its presence and also released a list of games that will be appearing. Among these are Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Trials of Mana, both which will receive new trailers.

But that’s not all. Mobile titles Dragon Quest of the Stars, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will also be present. If that’s not your thing, then the long awaited Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will also receive a new trailer ahead of its January 2020 release.
