Nintendo has done a solid job of bolstering Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s N64 library since its launch, having added a number of games to its library in recent months, including the likes of F-Zero X, Mario Golf, Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, and more.

Recently, it was announced that fan-favourite photography adventure title Pokemon Snap would also be joining that list– which has now happened. The game is now part of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s N64 library, which means anyone who’s subscribed to the higher tier of the Switch’s subscription service can now access it for no additional cost.

Of course, its follow up, New Pokemon Snap is also available on the Switch, so there’s plenty to dive into for fans of that line of games.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has been making intermittent additions to the base Nintendo Switch Online’s library as well, having recently added three new Kirby games- read more on that through here.

The 1999 Pokemon photography title will be available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers next week.

HAL Laboratory’s Pokemon Snap, which originally launched in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, is coming to Nintendo Switch. It arrives on June 24th and is available for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack (at $49.99 for 12 months). Check out the latest trailer below.

As the precursor to New Pokemon Snap, the title sees players hopping in the ZERO-ONE and embarking on an adventure to capture pictures of Pokemon on Pokemon Island. It’s on rails and features 63 Pokemon from Generation 1. Environments on the island include the beach, a valley, a volcano, caves and more.

Based on the quality of pictures, players are graded by Professor Oak and can eventually unlock new accessories. However, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to print the photos as stickers like with the original release. Stay tuned for more details when Pokemon Snap goes live. In the meantime, check out our review for New Pokemon Snap on the Nintendo Switch here.

But we'll probably never know much about them.

We almost got other Pokemon Snap games. That’s one of the major takeaways from GameCentral’s interview with New Pokemon Snap director Haruki Suzaki from developer Bandai Namco Studios. This revelation makes sense; the original Pokemon Snap sold more than 1.5 million copies and was well-received. Consoles like the 3DS or the Wii U seemed primed for a game like Pokemon Snap, but obviously that never happened.

The revelation also seemed to surprise Suzaki. When asked why a sequel has taken so long, Suzaki responded, “When I started on this project, I had heard there had been a couple of attempts at making a new Pokémon Snap before.

“The idea of photography has changed so much in the last 20 years, combined with the new Nintendo Switch hardware, that we thought it was the perfect time to create a new version of Pokémon Snap, and that’s why we started the project.”

Suzaki also talked about several other things, including how the team approached designing the game, what inspired him in the original release, and that the team stayed true to the original by adding a variety of puzzle elements players can solve to create certain interactions with Pokemon, which lead to better pictures. Suzaki said some of these elements are intentionally complex, and he looks forward to seeing players try to solve them.

New Pokémon Snap releases exclusively for Nintendo Switch on April 30th, 2021.

Junichi Masuda says they just never found the right idea.

Obviously the big Pokemon focus right now is the upcoming Sword and Shield, the next mainline entry in the long running series. There’s also the multiple mobile games that the series is going for. There’s a variety of games right now, not to mention a major Hollywood film, but there’s always been one entry that many have wondered about: Pokemon Snap. The game was a simple concept, putting you in a Pokemon Safari where you had to snap the best pictures of Pokemon in various landscapes. The game was a smash hit on the Nintendo 64, but there has never been a follow up in any direct or indirect way since. And now, longtime Pokemon Producer Junichi Masuda says the simple truth is they just couldn’t find a unique way to do it.

In an interview with Metro, Masuda spoke at length about several upcoming Pokemon projects. He was asked about why Pokemon Snap never got a follow up, despite being a huge success and having systems like the Wii U and 3DS that would seemingly be a perfect fit for the concept. His answer was short and sweet saying they needed “a very unique twist” to consider doing another, with that being the big reason why no followup ever came about.

It’s not as if anyone is wanting for Pokemon material, but Snap was always unique in and of itself, being a sort of video game zen garden. Maybe one day we’ll end up with a sequel or similarly styled spinoff, but it doesn’t seem Game Freak is in a big hurry to make one.

Mind control, hauntings and actual murders - here a few urban legends that were hard to ignore.

It’s not strange for mysteries to crop up in gaming, whether it’s in the form of Easter Eggs or secrets. However, some mysteries remain unsolved for a long time and transcend into the realm of urban legends, their validity somewhat iffy. You might have heard it from a friend of a friend, believed a hoax or simply encountered something that defies explanation – here are 14 urban legends in video games regardless.

Haunted – Pokemon Snap

Take it as just another urban legend or the stuff of truth but one unfortunate player apparently found a haunted copy of Pokemon Snap. The N64 title saw players on-rails, taking pictures of Pokemon on Pokemon Island. It’s a generally happy game but this particular copy had odd purple streaks throughout. Professor Oak’s eyes were replaced with pitch-black voids and many of the lovable pocket monsters looked downright unsettling (according to the person in question that is). At some point, visiting the volcano stage would result in Pokemon screaming. Soon enough, the player saw himself submerged in lava. That’s several degrees of “yikes” right there.
