Developer focused console.

PS3 was a powerful console but it did have a limitation. The amount of memory that was in the console was turning out to be too low for developers who tried to maintain parity with the Xbox 360.

The console received a lot of bad ports over time because of this issue and since the the GPU was way too weak as well. However, it won’t be a problem with the PS4, as the architecture is pretty solid.

“The console itself is exactly what developers were hoping for. The familiar PC architecture means we can fast track our focus on the content rather than navigating the system’s complexities which will surely result in better quality titles for players across the board,” Nick Baynes, boss of BigBit and ex-game director at now-shuttered Split/Second and Pure developer Black Rock, told Eurogamer.

“As Mark [Cerny] said, it’s closer to PC architecture. So it’s easy to develop for and easier to switch to and get something up and running relatively quickly; maybe half the time it would take to get a PS3 off the ground,” Stuart Gilray added.

Many developers are pleased with what lead system architect Mark Cerny has devised, and multiplatform games should be really similar between PS4 and Xbox 720, this time around.

The console will be released in holiday 2013. Tell us what you think in the comments section below.

'Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally.'

In an era where many gaming publishers are following a strict DRM structure, it was expected that next generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft may be opting for an always online option. But fortunately, that won’t be the case atleast for the PlayStation 4.

Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that you can play PS4 in offline mode, however he suggest that you may want to keep it connected.

“You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected. The system has the low-power mode – I don’t know the official term – that the main system is shut down but the subsystem is awake. Downloading or updating or you can wake it up using either the tablet, smartphone or PS Vita,” he said to EuroGamer.

He further emphasizes his point that a lot of people still do not like social features so it’s not compulsory to go online.

“Oh yes, yes, you can go offline totally. Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don’t want to connect to anyone else, you can do that,” he said.

This should come as good news for gamers who are looking forward to the PS4.

New information about the PS4.

A few days ago, Sony presented an impressive display of their next gen console: the PlayStation 4. Obviously a lot of information has been spilled and we have got more for all you hungry readers.

Pricing of Games:

First off, the price of PS4 games. Due to development costs of next gen games, many would have thought that they will cost more. But Sony Executive Jack Tretton has confirmed that PS4 games will cost anywhere from $0.99 to $60 similar to the PS3.

He said that PS4 is “designed with the game developer in mind and the consumer in mind,” and will offer games with prices ranging from $0.99 to the more traditional $60 range with the ability for players to sample games before they buy.

“I think people are willing to pay if they see the value there,” he said. “The heat for the true gamer is on the console.”

He said that games on mobile devices are “additive experiences” and that gamers won’t “migrate down the food chain” for their primary gaming experience.

Region Free Game Not Yet Confirmed:

The PS Vita and PS3 are both region free hardware. But Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida cannot confirm that the PS4 will have the same capability. He however confirmed that the PS4 design is finished.

“The PS4′s design is finished, but I cannot answer about this yet. Moreover, I think that it will be announced at another time,” he said.

PS4 Will Be Bundled With A Headset:

Just like the Xbox 360, a headset will be bundled with the PS4. Yoshida confirmed this on the PS Blog: ‘ A headset will be bundled with PS4, enabling gamers to chat with friends during online gaming and to hear sound effects from the controller.’

149 companies are supporting the platform.

After a strong showing yesterday, Sony have announced the entire list of developers and publishers that will be creating games on the PlayStation 4. The list includes companies from Japan, North America and Europe.

As you can see from the list below, there are well known companies like Konami and EA supporting the system. Sony did a great job of displaying their games and the developer support they have but this year’s E3 should be interesting as I am pretty sure there is more stuff that we are not aware of.

A rundown of the games that might be revealed during tonight's event.

The clock is ticking away and the rumor mill is in full swing. According to recent reports, Sony might be revealing some big games along with its PS4 showcase.

Please note that the games in this list are backed up by articles reported in the last and the current year. So we are not listing these games just for the sake of it.

Gran Turismo 6

Historically, Sony have always revealed a new Gran Turismo game along with hardware reveals. Back during E3 2005, Sony announced Gran Turismo 5 along with the PlayStation 3 reveal. So it is only obvious that history will repeat itself. Gran Turismo 6 is a game that will showcase the PlayStation hardware. The series has sold over 60 million copies so far since its inception back during the PSOne days.

The game has already been confirmed to be in development by Polyphony Digital, so it would be an awesome way to kick off the event. To top that, Sony also released a video which focused heavily on the history of Gran Turismo. You can check that below.

Quantic Dream’s New IP

Quantic Dream is rumored to be working on a PS4 title based on their domain registration called SingularityPS4. Now they also have a game in development for the PS3, but it’s been widely rumored and was event talked about by David Cage, co-founder of the studio, that they are working on a next gen game and considering their loyalty to Sony, this could be the best event to announce it. Could the Kara demo actually be a game for the PlayStation 4? Only time will tell.

Killzone 4/New IP

Ever since the original, Killzone has been hailed as a Halo Killer by loyal PlayStation fans. In my opinion, Killzone, similar to Halo, is in a class of it’s own. The infamous Killzone 2 tech demo for the PS3 created a lot of vibes in the industry and while the end result was not as impressive, the game could still be considered as something that matched the target render.

During the PS4 event, they could showcase a new Killzone game with a target render that is not misleading and actually achievable. Killzone 4 would be the best game to showcase the new PS4 hardware as Guerrilla are a studio that have also pushed technology. In fact it has Guerrilla Games are interested in continuing the Killzone franchise as well as a new IP.

Sony Santa Monica’s New IP

Earlier today there was a tweet that Sony Santa Monica–the creators of the God of War franchise–would be showing up during the event. Considering they already have a PS3 game in the works that is scheduled to be released in March, we think that this will be a new IP. God of War 3 was one of the most prettiest games on the PS3, and a PS4 version if announced could send people into a perpetual state of hype.

What does our future hold for tomorrow? We heard they may open Pandoras Box (again) live on stage, that would be AWESOME #playstation2013
— Sony Santa Monica (@SonySantaMonica) February 20, 2013

Sucker Punch’s New IP/inFamous 3

Sucker Punch haven’t been doing a lot since they shipped Infamous 2. We reported that Sucker Punch are working on an action game which will have multiplayer components. And then late last month, Bruce Oberg, co-founder of the studio showed interest in developing inFamous 3.

They are one of the studios of Sony that are expected to show a new game for the PS4. We don’t know whether it’s a new Infamous game or a new IP but considering the Infamous 3 ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, there could be every possibility that they could announce a new Infamous game at the conference. Imagine Cole using all those powers powered by a new hardware, now that would be something to see.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII/Final Fantasy 15

According to some industry chatter Square Enix are expected to show Final Fantasy Versus XIII on the PS4. Yes, the game could be on the PS4 considering its reveal back in 2006. Square Enix may be facing some technical difficulties or could have shifted the game to the new console to showcase its next generation Luminous engine.

This would not hurt the company since their cash reserves are way over a billion dollars and releasing the game on a new console with less install base, could actually work in their favor considering the consumer excitement for the PS4. There may be a chance that game shown will actually be Final Fantasy 15, a re-brand of Final Fantasy Versus 13, as we reported earlier.

What do you think? Will we see these games announced tonight?

Sony takes us in to the past.

In order to build up hype for tonight’s PS4 reveal, Sony have released a few videos which show off their journey right from the PSOne days. These retrospective videos takes us through a journey which shows Sony’s dominance with the PSOne and PlayStation 2. The advent of the PlayStation 3 and handheld gaming devices i.e. the PlayStation Portable and PS Vita.

And lastly, Sony shows off the most important entity that made them what they are now. The games. More precisely, Gran Turismo. The series has sold over 60 million copies and is essentially PlayStation’s flagship franchise.

Will Sony reveal Gran Turismo 6 in tonight’s event? Well, you never know.

Personally, I think it’s been one hell of ride for Sony, especially with the PlayStation 3. Many analysts claimed it will die, won’t even sell a million etc. I guess we all know where the PlayStation 3 stands now.

Enough of the chit-chat. Check out the videos below.

The series that go around, come around.

It’s no surprise that the future of games is set to be dominated by sequels. It’s been this way for the past few decades, and it’s unlikely that this questionable trend will end any time soon. Some particularly prominent franchises are already marking double figures, and far too many established intellectual properties sport one too many spin-off titles for their own good.

History tends to repeat itself of course and, whilst I’m sure developers will be pushing for innovative new IPs in the next generation of home consoles, I have no doubt that this library of fresh ideas will be joined by plenty of sequels. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, as plenty of our favourite games have only come from the honing process of sequel after sequel. With that in mind, here are ten of our bets on what sequels will be showing up in the coming years.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt.com for more news and updates.

What's bound to be missing from Sony's big announcement?

It’s that time ladies and gents, when all our rumours of next generation hardware may actually get put to rest by an official announcement. Sony have cryptically told us that we’ll “see the future” of the Playstation brand on the 20th of February, corroborating this with a typically abstract video telling us the same. The media giant are holding an event for investors and the press on said date and, as these functions normally cost a hell of a lot of cash, it’s unlikely Sony are just putting this on for fun. The evidence is mounting that Sony are preparing to reveal the PS4 officially on the 20th and, assuming this is true, we’re going to get a lot of concrete info coming our way on the next generation of gaming. That said, Sony won’t be playing all their cards just yet, so here are ten things the Playstation fore-fathers won’t be letting us in on right away.

Launch Games

Though we may be graced with a hardware unveiling in the coming weeks, it’s more than likely that software won’t be touched on in any meaningful way. Certainly some games will be mentioned, as there will have to be some kind of video footage on show, but it’s likely that only one or two titles will be shown. Even then, it’s more than likely they will just be tech demos and not confirmed games. Time will tell what games will launch with the PS4

Bundled Software

For very similar reasons as to why we won’t get a full run-down of the launch line up, it also doesn’t seem plausible for software bundles and alternate SKUs to be announced. Bundles in particular seem to be increasingly sparse for console launches these days so, whilst they’ll be in abundance as killer apps get released more steadily later in the PS4’s cycle, the early days probably won’t have any such bundled software.

Price

It’s hard to imagine that Sony will be able to commit to an exact price for the console with so much time before the estimated 2014 launch of the PS4. We can count on being given a price range, or a price tag for a single territory, but the full price ranges are probably not going to be announced until closer to the actual console launch.
