As one of Sony's most successful consoles, the PlayStation 4 is home to some of the best games ever. Check out 30 of them here.

With the downs and ups that the PlayStation 3 had faced, it was refreshing to see the PlayStation 4 remain consistently dominant throughout its time. Several great titles were released throughout, some redefining gaming as we know it, while others pushed the boundaries of what consoles could achieve with their limited hardware. Let’s look at 30 of the best PS4 games and reminisce on what made them great.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Is Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the greatest games of all time, really the best Xbox One and PS4 title? Yes, it is, because even with the hardware limitations, Rockstar Games delivered an excellent open-world action-adventure. The story is fantastic; the characters, especially protagonist Arthur Morgan, are fantastic; and the gameplay, while not for everyone, is realistic and incredibly detailed with a wide range of activities.

VR might feel like an unnecessary gimmick to some, but the platform is home to some great experiences - and here are 15 of the best.

While some may have dismissed VR gaming as just a fad that will pass away with time, the platform is actually growing at a rapid pace. Sony’s upcoming PSVR2 will bring new experiences to fans, and we can’t wait to see the likes of Horizon: Call of the Mountain in action. But it’s equally important to look back at the history of VR, and see which games are the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to quality. On that note, we present 15 of the best VR games of all time:

Half-Life: Alyx

Half-Life: Alyx was a dream come true for legions of fans, but when Valve announced that it was a VR-only game – there was an element of skepticism associated with anticipation. But when Half-Life: Alyx was finally released, fans were elated with joy and all those skepticism washed away. In so many ways, Half-Life: Alyx is the perfect example of how to craft a AAA game for the VR platform – thanks to a potent combination of a meaningful story and well-designed gameplay ideas that leverage the capabilities of the platform to the fullest.

Earlier in the year, Sony announced they would be bringing back their Play at Home initiative. This month saw the company giving out 2016’s Ratchet and Clank, the latest game in the franchise ahead of the new Rift Apart releasing this June. But they are clearly just getting started, as for the remainder of this month and into April they will give out a whooping 10 titles free of charge.

As announced on the official Twitter and blog, there will be a total of 10 different titles given out over the course of the next month. It’s a mix of big titles, indies and VR games. Probably the big headliner of the bunch is Horizon: Zero Dawn Complete Edition next month. After that the next high profile game is the VR hit Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. Then you have Rez Infinite, Abzu, Enter the Gungeon, Subnautica, and The Witness. Then the next group is PS VR exclusive titles Moss, Paper Beast and Thumper.

Horizon: Zero Dawn will be available starting April 19th up until May 14th. All the other titles will be free starting March 25th and running to April 22nd. They will redeemable free of charge, even without PS Plus, on PS5 and PS4. Those marked with VR below will require a PS VR to play.

More synesthesia is on the way.

It was last year when we were kind of taken off guard by the release of Tetris Effect. The game fused classic Tetris play with sensational sound and visuals for an unforgettable experience. The game recently found its way to the Xbox console family with a new multiplayer mode in tow, which we were pretty big fans of. Now it seems the man behind it is already working on his next project.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi took to his official Twitter to confirm he had moved to his next adventure. Besides Tetris Effect, Mizuguchi was also behind Rez and Child of Eden, two original IPs with a similar feel to them. This next game will also play with the concept of synesthesia, which is all about mixing together different sensations like sight and sound for unique experiences. Enhance studio is working on another game called Humanity that was announced last year, but it doesn’t seem as if that project is related to Mizuguchi’s next.

Tetris Effect: Connected is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC. The base game without the Connected multiplayer content is also available on PS4 with that material planned to come there at some point in the future.

Five years later, the PS4 has accumulated an impressive range of titles. Here are the top 30 to play.

Ever since it launched in 2013, the PlayStation 4 has been on a roll. It’s not only shipped over 86 million units but also houses some of the best exclusives out there with some of the best visuals. If you’re keen on hopping aborad the PS4 train, then take a look at 30 of its all-time best titles, from pretty good to outright great.

DriveClub

Evolution Studios’ DriveClub had a pretty rough start with server issues and glitches making a lot of the content inaccessible. Nevertheless, the developer stuck with it, improving the experience, adding more content and branching out into different ideas (like bikes). By now, DriveClub stands as one of the better racing experiences out there, even if it isn’t as hyper-realistic as, say, Gran Turismo Sport.

First released on PS4 and PS VR, PC players can now bask in the synaesthesia.

So remember when it was announced that Rez Infinite, the remake of the classic Dreamcast title for PS4 and PlayStation VR, would be releasing on PC via Steam today? Neither do we but lo and behold, the surreal synaesthesia of Rez is now available for everyone to enjoy on PC.

The PC version will include the original levels, namely Areas 1 to 5, remastered in HD with a new level called Area X added. Furthermore, PC players can take advantage of an “unrestricted” resolution.

Along with being fully playable as a normal desktop title, PC players can also enjoy the game with HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and their respective peripherals like Oculus Remote, Vive Controllers and so on. There’s also a neat View Mode for admiring your surroundings. Simply hit “V” on your keyboard and use your mouse to admire the scenery. It’s certainly worth it in the free flying Area X.

Head here if you’re interested in picking up Rez Infinite (after all, it’s discounted till August 16th).

Ready your wallets - October will be a deluge for high profile releases.

The holiday season is upon us and that means lots of triple A games. Seriously, if you were worried about your wallet taking a beating before, then you haven’t seen anything yet. Let’s take a look at 10 games to play when October finally rolls around.

Mafia 3

Between Nam, losing his surrogate family and swearing vengeance on the Italian mob, Lincoln Clay is quite the busy killer in Mafia 3. Set in New Bordeaux, inspired by late 1960s New Orleans, Mafia 3 features a large open world full of rackets to break up, vehicles to hijack and criminal dens to infiltrate. With its GTA 5-esque cover system and huge assortment of weapons, Mafia 3 promises a compelling criminal caper – one that could see you entertain or exterminate your fellow partners. It’s out on October 7th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Gears of War 4

Fenix is back but it’s JD instead of Marcus that’s the focus. Gears of War 4 takes place several years after the third game and between an oppressive government and The Swarm, the world has seen better days. The set piece heavy moments of the series return along with new weapons and characters. Multiplayer brings free-ish DLC and Gear Packs for various benefits but all you should know is that Horde mode is back and that’s all that matters. Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th for Xbox One and Windows 10.

WWE 2K17

While the WWE 2K games fall somewhere between entertainingly hilarious and shockingly poor, we’re still looking forward to WWE 2K17 when it releases on October 11th for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. MyCareer mode has seen some major revamps, introducing Brock Lesnar as a major part of the story, while promos can now be cut during various interludes. There’s even a meter to indicate how well your promo engages the crowd. Gameplay additions include a new secondary submission system and the return of backstage brawls.

Shadow Warrior 2

Lo Wang is now Cyber Wang. Up to four players can decimate a future overrun by demons with quick movement, chainsaw katanas and akimbo-style gun wielding in Shadow Warrior 2. Customization, abilities, loot, random generation, increased movement possibilities – there’s a lot to unpack in the sequel. Thankfully, it still features procedural limb chopping. Who doesn’t love that? Shadow Warrior 2 arrives on October 13th for PC.

Battlefield 1

War is hell and in Battlefield 1, war has gotten a lot more…sandy. World War 1 is the newest setting as players control different factions across brand new maps. Head to Sinai Desert and lockdown various control points while avoiding sandstorms and armoured trains. Battle in the new Operations and War Pigeon mode, the former acting as a multi-round match and the latter involving pigeons (it’s cooler than that, we promise). Battlefield 1 is out on October 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Civilization 6

It’s a new Civilization and people already hate it. What’s new, right? Civilization 6 has garnered quite the backlash already for its art style but we’re not complaining. The 4X title will introduce city “unstacking” as you manage various districts within your metropolis. A Civics tree is also being introduced to allow different paths to victory to be more viable. Watch out for it on October 21st for PC.

Titanfall 2

The tech test may have been mixed but Titanfall 2 just looks better and better the more we see it. Attrition will be making its return while comprehensive looks at the cosmetics and weapons make us even more excited for the possibilities. Titanfall 2‘s movement has also been further sped up, more intriguing maps (including the return of Angel City) have been showcased and the wait till October 28th is slowly becoming torturous. It will be out on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim — Special Edition

The Dragonborn rises again in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition. Don’t expect new content as Skyrim Special Edition packs together the base game, Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn into one comprehensive, graphically updated package. Improved textures and effects can be expected but Skyrim Special Edition will also bring mods to the Xbox One version (sorry PS4 fans). PC players will receive a free upgrade for owning all previous content which offers even more incentive to revisit Skyrim on October 28th.

World of Final Fantasy

Look, we get it – chibi characters aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But there are plenty of reasons to be excited. Aside from mixing together several signature Final Fantasy worlds, cameos from characters like Lightning, Tidus, Vivi, Squall, Cloud and many more can be expected. World of Final Fantasy at this stage seems more like a celebratory title but if the Active Time Battle and Mirage mechanics hold up, it could be a dark horse when it arrives on October 21st for PS4 and PS Vita.

Rez Infinite

Of the many VR titles releasing with PlayStation VR, we have to go with recommending Rez Infinite. Besides its eclectic music and gameplay style that look made for VR, Rez Infinite is one of the more underrated games of the Dreamcast/PS2 era. We may not get a full body feedback suit but we’re more than happy to dive into Rez Infinite when it releases on October 13th.

For the original areas that is.

Enhance Games has announced that Rez Infinite, the remake of Rez from the Dreamcast era that will be heading to the PS4 and PlayStation VR, will support the PlayStation 4 Pro’s upgraded hardware. It can be played at 4K resolution and also runs at 60 frames per second.

As per Polygon, the original version’s areas will support this functionality. The new content, however, will seemingly not. The new content includes the Area X level and apparently, there will be some benefit to playing the same according to the developer. This hasn’t been revealed yet but initial impressions of Area X are fairly positive based on the showing at Tokyo Game Show.

Rez Infinite is out on October 13th for PlayStation 4 and PS4. What are your thoughts on playing it at 4K resolution on the PS4 Pro, even if it’s just the original version’s areas? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more details.

The updated classic will launch alongside Sony's VR headset.

Enhance Games has confirmed via Twitter that Rez Infinite, its remake of the Dreamcast/PS2 cult classic that will be heading to PS4 and PlayStation VR, will launch on October 13th. That’s the same day that PlayStation VR releases worldwide.

Rez Infinite is perhaps one of the more innovative titles of the PS2 generation. It mixed synesthesia and rhythm to create a unique futuristic shooter that’s been critically acclaimed. At the PlayStation Experience 2015, Sony announced that Rez Infinite would be heading to PlayStation VR and debuted that game with original producer Tetsuya Mizuguchi wearing a full body suit with vibration. The Trance Vibrator won’t be making a return either so any sense of rumble will be confined to the DualShock 4.

But still, hearing that Rez Infinite is launching alongside PlayStation VR is good news. Will that inspire you to pick up your own headset? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information in the coming months.
