“We don’t have any plans for DLC – but rest assured, there’s already plenty of content in SaGa Emerald Beyond.” It revealed in an earlier point that based on your starting protagonist, it can take around ten hours to reach the first ending. However, due to the many branching points, players will “never experience exactly the same thing twice,” resulting in different stories and endings.

Whether this results in “infinite” playtime or similar playthroughs with slightly different permutations remains to be seen. As such, this isn’t the end of SaGa by a long shot, with a potential remaster of SaGa Frontier 2 in the works. Series creator Akitoshi Kawazu celebrated the title’s 25th anniversary recently and while not announcing a remaster, he did ask fans to “please wait a little longer for that.”

“Honestly though, you won’t be disappointed if you wait, so you can rest assured. Please be patient.” Time will tell if an announcement comes later this year, so stay tuned.

Each character embarks on an inter-dimensional adventure for different purposes, whether you play as Ameya Aisling, who seeks to retrieve her magic powers, or Diva No. 5, a former singer turned robot looking to restore her voice and memories. As players venture across the worlds, they’ll encounter different events with several endings to unlock.

Combat utilizes a timeline, allowing players to interrupt an enemy before it attacks. However, there are also mechanics like randomly learning attacks via the Glimmering system in battle and executing chain called United Attacks to deal massive damage. The demo follows the beginning of Mido’s story, a resident of Miyako City who departs to investigate disruptions in the spirit realm. His quest involves seeking out four elemental spirits, utilizing puppets to fight alongside him. Party members learn new abilities thanks to Glimmering, with choices varying based on the difficulty of a battle.

Diva No. 5 was previously well-known among the populace of Avalon for her singing prowess. However, after singing a “forbidden” song discovered in the Royal Museum, she loses her memory and can no longer sing. As a result, she opts to join the National Extradimensional Exploratory Task Force, leaving her original frame and Avalon to explore other worlds and hopefully sing again.

Diva No. 5 has several forms, from a Retro Pod with a simple expression to a drone-like Mover, each with unique attributes and resistances. She looks fun to play and could adjust to various party compositions depending on the requirement.

While the demo’s contents are unknown, the accompanying clip on Twitter seemingly indicates three playable characters – Tsunanori Mido (who controls magical puppets), Ameya Aisling (a witch-in-training) and Diva No. 5 (a robot whose voice and memory have been sealed). It’s also unclear if progress will transfer to the game, allowing players to pick up where they left off.

There are 17 different worlds to explore, which change based on players’ decisions. Players access them by traversing the Junction with various doors offering battles or story events. One such door leads to The Sealed Castle but requires clearing four combat encounters and collecting their keys to open it.

Skipping ahead in the star, Broadley showcases the combat. One unique feature is Glimmering, where party members learn new abilities based on an encounter’s difficulty. A neat twist on this is Tsunanori Mido’s puppets that mimic techniques from other characters since they can’t learn any.

The two recruits are from Capitol City, which is full of skyscrapers. Like other characters, they eventually travel to different worlds, with only a triangle piece and allegations of their president being duplicitous. SaGa Emerald Beyond has six playable characters, with Tsunanori Mido and Ameya Aisling highlighted in previous trailers.

Like the older games, each has unique stories which can branch depending on your choices. You’ll trigger changes in the worlds and unlock different endings.

Tsunanori resides in Miyako City, which is more old-fashioned and traditional. However, following the last great way, it’s overrun by supernatural happenings. With the power to wield animated puppets, he ventures to other worlds to find the elemental spirits and return order to Miyako City.

On the flip side is Yumeha Izumi, who can assume the role of a magical girl-style witch named Ameya Aisling. Venturing from Pulchra to Miyako City for her witchterm exams, she loses her powers and embarks on a journey to get them back (with her familiar LoLo tagging along). Compared to the shlocky Tsunanori, Ameya’s story feels more easygoing.

The six leads each have their own stories and goals, with five story arcs to explore. SaGa Emerald Beyond will launch physically and digitally in Japan, along with a Collector’s Edition exclusive to the Square Enix e-STORE. The trailer for SaGa Emerald Beyond gives us a good look at the turn-based RPG gameplay in the upcoming title. The trailer also showed of a host of different characters that players can choose between, with a good level of variety across the characters.

SaGa Emerald Beyond will feature 17 different interconnected worlds, all of which join up to form one gigantic story. Players will be able to make different choices throughout the various campaigns, affecting the overall story in the game.

When it comes to combat, the turn-based system in SaGa Emerald Beyond will allow players to manipulate the timeline of the fight, altering the order in which turns are taken. Players can manipulate the timeline into delaying enemy attacks and queuing up their own attacks to form bigger combos.
