Evil Empire's side-scrolling action rogue-lite will retail for $19.99, with artist ASADI composing the soundtrack and main theme.

After delaying its early access launch to make room for playing Hades 2, Evil Empire has announced that The Rogue Prince of Persia will launch on May 27th. It will be available for PC via Steam Early Access. A new gameplay trailer is available, highlighting the smooth combat and some of the soundtrack, composed by ASADI. Check it out below.

Based on Ubisoft’s series but without any connection to previous titles, The Rogue Prince of Persia sees the titular Prince trying to stop an invading Hun army. While he possesses the power to go back in time, manifesting as different runs, the Prince can also equip various weapons and Medallions with unique traits and perks for a fighting chance.

Mastering traversal and navigating environments is also important for success, especially given all the traps that abound. The Rogue Prince of Persia will retail for $19.99 when it launches in early access. Stay tuned for more details before it goes live.

The arrival of Hades 2 has prompted a delay, with a new release date to be announced on May 13th, but it also means more polish.

Evil Empire’s The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D side-scrolling rogue-lite based on Ubisoft’s franchise, has seen a delay. Previously slated for May 14th, early access will now start later this month, with a new release date to be announced on May 13th.

As for the reason behind the delay, it’s due to the sudden early access launch of Hades 2, currently among the top sellers on Steam. “Seeing as everyone and their mum is playing that game (including our entire team… and their mums), we have decided to let people have their fun with it before we release The Rogue Prince of Persia.”

The developer has “every confidence” in its title, but “it’s not every day that a game in the same genre as you, which is one of the most anticipated upcoming games of 2024, will release into Early Access a week before you plan to do the same.” Instead of ignoring its impact, the team is going for a short delay instead.

It also allows for more polish on top of the day one patch (which is “getting pretty hefty”). Having more time for testing before launch is noted to have “considerably lowered the stress levels of our producer and game director already!”

The Rogue Prince of Persia will launch into early access with its first story Act, consisting of six levels and two bosses. Players can also utilize different primary and second weapons, Medallions for passive effects and more. Head here for details on how Medallions and weapon traits work. Early access will last “around a year”, perhaps longer, with updates adding new levels, bosses, story content, progression systems and more.

Primary weapons are your bread and butter, while tools allow for striking at range. Medallions provide various passive effects.

In its latest Community Update video for The Rogue Prince of Persia, Evil Empire outlined traversal and how players could get around the rogue-lite’s many levels. However, combat is the other part of the equation, and there’s plenty to keep players occupied.

As noted before, The Prince can choose from several Primary Weapons (though only carrying one at a time), including swords, twin daggers, throwing weapons and more. While each has different combos, they also have special attacks. The Broadsword, for example, can launch enemies into the air. You also have tools like the bow and chakram that require charges (replenished by striking enemies).

The Prince’s kick is vital because it stuns enemies when they hit walls and sends them into environmental hazards. However, it can also break the shields of armored enemies, stunning both in the process. The dive is also essential, as it can easily shatter shields.

You can also discover Medallions on your journey and equip up to four at a time. Like the Talismans from Dead Cells, they provide various passive effects, like releasing a poison cloud when wounded, setting fire to an area when killing a marked enemy, and adding HP whenever you discover a new Well of Dreams.

Medallions upgrade each other based on where they’re slotted, and enhanced weapons can also trigger their effects. Evil Empire will add more weapons, tools and Medallions as early access progresses.

The Rogue Prince of Persia launches on May 14th for PC via Steam Early Access.

Leap over hazards, wall-run horizontally and vertically, and dash to vault over enemies in the upcoming action rogue-lite.

Evil Empire’s The Rogue Prince of Persia enters early access on May 14th, so before that, it’s providing more details in various Community Update videos. This week, it delves into Traversal and Combat, the former consisting of wall runs, jumps and more. Check it out below.

Traversal has a sense of flow, with players seamlessly navigating environments. The Prince can leap across gaps, slide down ramps and wall-run, but here’s where it gets interesting. You can wall-run horizontally, upwards and even diagonally, yet venturing downwards isn’t possible (though you can run directly up walls). Certain areas will require leaping onto poles to scout where to go next.

Of course, The Prince can also swing from poles, showcasing his impressive acrobatic skill. There’s also dashing – if close to an enemy, you’ll vault over them to face their back, a la The Sands of Time. Also worth noting is that when falling great distances, you can slow your descent using a knife (provided one is equipped).

The Rogue Prince of Persia will be playable on PC via Steam Early Access at launch and include the first Act, six levels, two bosses and multiple weapons. Stay tuned for more details before it goes live and check out some more gameplay here.

Watch the initial portion of Evil Empire's upcoming rogue-lite, which outlines the Prince's various abilities and combat prowess.

Ubisoft released a compelling side-scroller earlier this year with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, but it’s going in a completely different direction with The Rogue Prince of Persia. Developed by Dead Cells team Evil Empire, the rogue-lite title recently received some extensive new gameplay courtesy of Game Informer. Check it out below.

Like the Beheaded in Dead Cells, the Prince can use multi-combo attacks, dodge and stomp on the ground from a high enough point. Some additions include kicking enemies into walls or traps and holding down the attack button for a powerful special attack to strike multiple enemies in a line. Players will discover multiple weapons and sub-weapons from chests or vendors, from sabers to bows and grappling hooks.

The platforming is also similar to previous entries in the franchise (even though its lore is separate). You can wall-jump, wall-run, leap off poles, slide down inclined surfaces and more, evading environmental hazards and whatnot. A boss fight caps off the end, with a hulking minotaur-like being charging and headbutting The Prince back to a previous checkpoint.

The Rogue Prince of Persia launches on May 14th for PC. It will be available as an early access title with new levels, weapons, bosses, and story content released over subsequent updates. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

The rogue-lite title's story involves the Huns invading the Prince's kingdom, seemingly due to the latter recklessly goading them.

Evil Empire finally unveiled its next project at the Triple-i Initiative showcase – a rogue-like Prince of Persia title, as indicated by recent rumors. It enters early access next month for PC, but some new gameplay footage and impressions are available courtesy of Game Informer. After speaking to the developer about the premise, it confirmed that The Rogue Prince of Persia’s lore is separate from the main series.

There aren’t any connections to previous entries or even the recent Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. The story follows the Prince, who has a necklace that lets him essentially “restart” from previous points, turning him into a reckless individual (one that’s acrobatic but still). He’s on a mission to save his kingdom from the invading Huns.

However, it seems the invasion is due to the Prince’s goading. Some “dark shamanic magic” has corrupted them, so there’s likely a higher purpose to the same, but players will need to mow through hordes of enemies to find out.

The Rogue Prince of Persia launches on May 14th via Steam Early Access. Like Dead Cells, it will receive updates to add new areas, weapons, bosses, levels and more throughout its early access period.

Developed by Dead Cells' team Evil Empire, the rogue-lite action platformer sees the Prince questing to save Persia from an invading army.

Following several rumors, Ubisoft has finally announced The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D action platformer rogue-lite. It’s developed by Evil Empire of Dead Cells fame and launches on May 14th for Steam Early Access. Check out the animated announcement trailer below.

The story sees the Prince fighting to protect Persia from an invading Hun army corrupted by “dark shamanic magic.” He’ll discover new weapons and trinkets, upgrading both to specialize in different builds while interacting with new characters and exploring areas. In an ode to the old-school platforming titles, the Prince employs acrobatics in combat, dodging foes and even kicking them into traps.

You can also wall-run to reach out-of-the-way areas, equip secondary weapons like bows, shields and grappling hooks, and use medallions for more challenges. Procedurally generated levels mean a different run each time. As with Dead Cells, new enemies, bosses, weapons, levels and story acts will be added throughout the early access period. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

The world's first DirectX 12 compatible game launches next week.

Stardock have announced that their newest strategy game, Ashes of the Singularity, will be launching on Steam Early Access on October 22, 2015. Ashes of the Singularity looks pretty good as is, so you have reason enough to care for it, but since Stardock were also behind the excellent Sins of a Solar Empire, we have enough grounds to be suitably excited for the game.

Ashes of the Singularity seems to promise somewhat of a revolution for PC strategy games- it is the first native 64-bit 3D RTS, that also uses a new 3D engine (Nitrous) that fully leverages modern multi-core PCs. The game is also the first game to support Microsoft’s new DirectX 12 API. Besides being the first 64-bit RTS and being the first to use DirectX 12, Ashes of the Singularity also includes the first asynchronous multi-core real-time AI.

“Previously, RTS games had to choose between great visuals or lots of units, due to being limited to 32-bit and DirectX 9 based engines,” said Brad Wardell, President & CEO of Stardock. “It’s one of the reasons that RTS games have kind of hit a wall these past few years. The RTS could be pretty or be epic, but not both. Thanks to the Nitrous engine, we can support tens of thousands of units acting independently as part of a worldwide battle with a distinct visual style.

Set in the distant future, the player starts on a contested planet with a single headquarters. In the vein of the Age of Empires games, or Stardock’s own Sins of a Solar Empire, the player must gather resources, build factories, research new technologies, manage a global economy, manufacture massive armies of machine-based constructs, and conquer enemies in combat.

“We are very excited to go into early access,” said Wardell. “Given how ambitious this game is, we’re going to need all the help we can get from our player base to reach our goal of making this the most epic, large-scale real time strategy game ever.”

“While we expect the game to have a strong multiplayer community, we are adamant that the single player game have intelligent and challenging computer opponents to play against,” said Wardell. “We have team games with friends versus the AI, free for all, and every other combination in place already to help begin testing this part of the game early. This isn’t one of those games where the AI is an afterthought.”
