Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was announced as a first-person title, many fans would have understandably been skeptical as to how such an action-adventure-focused title would work within the context of a first-person game. But those skepticisms were pleasantly washed away when the game actually came out. In addition to a very engaging story with memorable characters, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle features intriguing puzzles and a great deal of flexibility in how you choose to go about quests.

Considering the original, developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios, launched in August 1999, the remaster could arrive this year. It’s being developed for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Nightdive is no stranger to the franchise – following System Shock: Enhanced Edition, it remade the classic in 2023 to significant praise. The 25th Anniversary Edition won’t feature as extensive an overhaul to the visuals and gameplay, but it will run in 4K/120 FPS and Ultrawide screen support. It will also update the cutscenes and include numerous fan mods (including high-resolution textures).

The Enhanced Edition release will come with fully remaster visuals, including cutscenes, character models, and weapon models, as well as support for 4K and 120 FPS performance. Nightdive has also confirmed widescreen support, adjustable FoV, post-processing effects, full mod support, co-op multiplayer, and more.

Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, which was previously only confirmed for PC, will also be available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upon launch. Nightdive still hasn’t announced a launch date for the title.

Meanwhile, Nightdive has plenty more in the works that it will be releasing in the near future, including remasters of Star Wars: Dark Forces and Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, while the developer has said it also intends to work on a remaster of The Darkness.

Remaster specialist Nightdive Studios will have something to show at the PC Gaming Show, it seems. The developer recently took to Twitter and asked fans to tune in, saying it’ll have “something new to share” at the event. Whether that means it’ll be an update on a previously-announced title or a reveal of an entirely new one remains to be seen.

There’s a solid chance, of course, that they end up providing an update for the long-in-development System Shock remake. The game is due out sometime this year and is supposedly in the final stages of development, so hopefully a release date will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Nightdive is currently also working on a couple of remasters of classic titles in SiN Reloaded, System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition, and Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition, so there’s that to keep in mind as well.

While work continues on the System Shock Remake, Nightdive Studios is also busy with System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. However, it’s not just working to enhance the original. As revealed to IGN, the game will also get a full VR mode. It’s currently in the prototype stage and has its own development team.

Nightdive Studios CEO Stephen Kick stated that, “During the process of reverse-engineering the missing libraries for System Shock 2, we had an opportunity to play around with the idea of creating a standalone VR version. And so we brought on an [VR] expert to look about the cod and give us a brief idea of what kind of things we could do.” In this way, the studio began fully developing a VR version.

Along with the full game being playable, co-op is also supported. This also means that thanks to cross-platform co-op, VR players on separate platforms can play together. Of course, due to its current state, the mode won’t be available when System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition release. We’ll need to wait for more details in that regard.

Currently, System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is planned to release alongside System Shock Remake (which is coming to PS4, PC and Xbox One). Pre-orders for the latter begin this month with a final demo also on the way. System Shock 3 is also in development from OtherSide Entertainment.

After its extensive work on an enhanced edition for System Shock, Nightdive Studios has announced that it’s developing System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition. Other details weren’t provided, but the developer’s tweet indicates that the title is “coming soon”. A release in 2019 or early 2020 wouldn’t be the biggest stretch.

Acclaimed as one of the best games ever made, System Shock 2 is a futuristic FPS/RPG where players navigate a spaceship overcome by infection. Considering it was released in 1999, an enhanced edition would be perfect for first-time players interested in seeing what the big deal is. Of course, Nightdive is also working on a remake of the first System Shock, which is a ways off.

System Shock 3 is also in development at OtherSide Entertainment. A pre-alpha teaser was showcased earlier this year at GDC 2019, but no release date has been announced. The sequel will see the return of diabolical AI SHODAN and is set for PC and “other platforms”.
