Tales of Arise is an epic fantasy title that takes place in the larger Tales franchise. The latest entry, originally released in 2021, revolves around Alphen and Shionne, who must work together and meet new allies to investigate mysteries surrounding Rena and its dominion over Dahna.

Tales of Arise had proven to be quite successful, both critically and commercially. In our review, we gave it a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to its central premise, overall narrative, and fast-paced combat with a solid progression system. By 2024, Bandai Namco had confirmed that it had sold more than 3 million copies worldwide.

Celebrating the second anniversary of its launch, Bandai Namco has released the Beyond the Dawn expansion. Taking place a year after the events of the base game, Beyond the Dawn sees our heroes reunite to investigate the mysterious child of a Renan Lord and a Dahnan, named Nazamil.

While no new entry in the Tales franchise has been announced, you can check out Tales of Arise and its Beyond the Dawn expansion on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.

In April 2022, Bandai Namco announced that the action RPG had sold 2 million copies worldwide.

For more details on Tales of Arise, check out our review. In November 2023, it received a paid expansion, Beyond the Dawn, adding a new story, dungeons, subquests, and costumes. However, your skills from the base game don’t carry over, so you need to unlock them again.

Bandai Namco hasn’t said anything about the next mainline title in the Tales series. However, producer Yusuke Tomiwaza felt the team must “come up with a cutting-edge flagship title that builds on the success of Arise, while also providing an opportunity to rediscover the history of the series.” Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

PS4-exclusive titles include LEGO Jurassic World, LEGO Worlds, Rogue Lords and Tales of Zestiria. Need for Speed Unbound and The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition round out the PS5-exclusive titles.

As for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers, they gain access to two PS4/PS5 titles – Jet Moto 2 for the PS One and Resistance: Retribution from the PSP era – and two PS4 titles – Tales of Symphonia Remastered and Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition. All PS4 titles should be playable on PS5 with backwards compatibility, further increasing the number of offerings.

Bandai Namco has confirmed via the Tales series’ official Twitter page that Tales of Arise will be coming to Game Pass next week, on February 20. Interestingly, on the same day, on the other side of the console fence, the acclaimed action RPG is also set to become available to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members via the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog.

In a recent interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, series producer Yusuke Tomizawa revealed that Tales of Arise has now sold over 2.7 million units worldwide, which he calls “unprecedented” for the Tales franchise.

“There were a large number of new players and players who had not played the game for a long time, and we were able to sell more than 2.7 million copies worldwide, an unprecedented number for a standalone Tales title,” Tomizawa said.

Bandai Namco recently also released an expansion for Tales of Arise, titled Beyond the Dawn. The expansion and base game are both available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Beyond the Dawn offers new story quests, subquests and dungeons to explore, along with six additional costumes. You also get the Silver Weapon Collection for new silver-colored weapon skins and the Travel Support Pack with five instant levels, CP, Gald and fishing gear. Unfortunately, those who completed the base game can’t carry over their gear, items and unlocked skills.

Instead, Beyond the Dawn offers a pre-made party as you go about unlocking things again. It’s not the biggest deal-breaker for those jumping in for the first time, but longtime players who care about their progress should take note.

It is worth noting that the new Beyond the Dawn trailer features quite a few spoilers for the main campaign in Tales of Arise. It showcases a lot of the characters from Tales of Arise discussing their plans for the future.

September saw the release of another story-centric trailer for Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn, focusing on the early story moments of the upcoming DLC. The trailer showed off events that seemed to be from the early moments of the expansion, introducing Nazamil and her role in the story.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn was announced during PlayStation’s State of Play showcase last month. The DLC takes place after the events of the main campaign in Tales of Arise, and features the protagonists in a new battle for peace. Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn is set for a November 9 release.

The video seems to be from early on in the Beyond the Dawn expansion, since it looks like these events will act as an introduction to Nazamil and her role in the story. It shows her running from pursuers until she’s cornered, at which point Nazamil uses her powers to hide.

At the same time, Tales of Arise protagonists Alphen and Shionne are shown enjoying the scenery while potentially having to be on guard since they might be surrounded by enemies.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn was originally announced during PlayStation’s recent State of Play with a trailer. The expansion will take palce some time after the events of the base game’s story, and will involve the protagonists involved in a new battle to keep peace in the world.

Beyond the Dawn is slated to come on November 9.

Word of an expansion for Tales of Arise first came up back in December last year when Bandai Namco was found to have filed a trademark for Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn. Interestingly, the expansion’s announcement seems to be in direct conflict with Tales of Arise producer Yusuke Tomiwaza, who stated last year that the game wouldn’t get a direct follow-up or an expansion.

Tales of Arise has been quite successful since its release. Last year, the game was reported to have sold more than 2 million copies. The number has quite likely gone up since then.

Tales of Arise is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

As for the online schedule, there’s a mysterious announcement on September 23rd at 11 AM JST, followed by Blue Protocol’s latest Transmission stream at 12:15 PM JST. The Tekken 8 Special Stage airs at 3:45 PM JST with new details and live gameplay, while the Tales of Arise 2nd Anniversary Special Live Stream airs at 9:15 PM JST.

The latter will feature the “latest information” on the Tales series, which could mean new content for Tales of Arise (especially with Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn trademarked back in December 2022) or a brand new game. Tokyo Game Show 2023 takes place from September 21st to 24th, so stay tuned for more updates next month.
