The Creative Assembly debuted gameplay for Total War: Warhammer 3 by pitting the Kislev and Khorne against each other. In its latest trailer, the Kislev are explained in more detial. Lead by Katarin the Ice Queen, the faction uses bears as mounts and rip enemies apart with ease.

Of course, there’s also the large icy bear that can be summoned onto the field. But the Kislev are more defensive minded and are suited towards quickly moving around to methodically pick off their foes. Skirmishing and attrition are the names of the game.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is out later this year for PC. Along with the Kislev, there’s Grand Cathay and the four other Chaos factions that worship deities like Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch. Races from previous titles will be playable here and The Creative Assembly is also working on a Mortal Empires campaign to shove every single race into one campaign. Following the cinematic trailer showcasing the Khorne and Kislev forces going to war, Total War: Warhammer 3 had its official gameplay reveal. It should be very familiar to players of the first two titles (and Total War games in general) with the ability to create formations of different units and command them accordingly. Total War: Warhammer 3 features two human races – Kislev and Grand Cathay – along with four Chaos factions that adhere to different deities. Along with Khorne, there’s Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch. The campaign will take place in the Realm of Chaos with a map that’s reportedly twice the size of Total War: Warhammer 2’s campaign.

Previous races and factions from the previous games will also be playable in Total War: Warhammer 3’s multiplayer while a Mortal Empires campaign is also being developed. The Creative Assembly’s Total War: Warhammer 3 will have a world premiere for its gameplay coming tomorrow. In the meantime, a new trailer has dropped that primarily focuses on the bloody and slaughtering forces of Khorne taking on Kislev and the forces of its Ice Witches. Though it’s not quite real-time gameplay, it does provide a tease of what Total War: Warhammer skirmishes are all about. Ground soldiers with fantastical units battle it out, creating larger than life moments unique to the series. The full game has even more to offer in terms of unit variety with Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch making up the other Ruinous Powers while the Grand Cathay represents another source of opposition to the forces of Chaos.

Total War: Warhammer 3 is currently slated to release in late 2021 for PC. Tomorrow’s world premiere takes place at 9 AM PT with The PC Gaming Show’s Frankie Ward hosting. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

As for the story, it’s all about The Realm of Chaos and the Ruinous Powers, each having their own unique brand of evil. In the midst of this are Kislev and Grand Cathay, two human kingdoms that must endure the coming tide of hate. With numerous excellent Total War releases over the years, The Creative Assembly has firmly established itself as one of the best developers of strategy games in the industry, while with the excellent first person survival horror title Alien: Isolation, the developer also proved that its talents are not bound by genre restrictions. The studio has become one of Sega’s biggest and most important teams over time, so it makes sense that it’s continuing to grow.

The Creative Assembly has announced that it’s opened up a new studio in West Sussex, UK, making it their third studio in the UK, while a new specialist motion capture facility has also been set up in a newly designed site. With over 800 permanent employees currently employed (and more to come, now with a new studio), they have become the biggest developer in the UK.

Though currently all work will remain remote due to COVID, Creative Assembly seems to be emphasizing a new flexible working model. “We have a fantastic reputation for being one of the best game developers to work for with our positive approach to work-life balance,” says studio director Gareth Edmondson. “I want to continue to build on this and see an end to the traditional 9-5 in-office work model.

“In the future we’ll be transforming our working model to embed flexibility as the norm, and we need the right environment to achieve that. While we want to amplify the benefits of remote working we also recognise that there is no virtual substitution to in-person creative collaboration, so we’ll be redesigning our working rhythm as well as our environment to focus on creativity and innovation when we are in the office.”

The Creative Assembly has quite a few irons in the fire. Total War: Warhammer 3 is currently in development and is scheduled to launch later this year. Meanwhile, a new tactical sci-fi FPS IP has also been in the works at the studio for some time now.

Regardless of its age, The Creative Assembly’s Total War series continues to be one of the most popular strategy franchises. In a recent announcement for the company’s new UK studio and motion capture facility, which grew by more than 20 percent in the last year, it was revealed that over 36 million standalone titles have been sold. Furthermore, the series sees over 1.5 million players each month.

The Total War series has seen a number of big releases over the past few years. Total War: Three Kingdoms was in the Platinum tier for Steam’s top new releases and best-selling titles for 2019. A Total War Saga: Troy launched exclusively for the Epic Games Store last year and saw 7.5 million players claim it for free within the first 24 hours.

Even more titles are coming soon with Total War: Rome Remastered launching on April 29th for PC. It offers 16 additional factions, 4K support and improved visuals while retailing for $29.99. Total War: Warhammer 3 is also in development with The Realm of Chaos and the Ruinous Powers being the key focus. It’s currently slated for late 2021 release on PC.

A classic RTS is making a comeback with Total War: Rome Remastered. Developed by Feral Interactive and The Creative Assembly, the remaster will include enhanced visuals with 4K support. It releases on April 29th for PC via Steam and retails for $29.99. Check out the announcement trailer below.

Along with optimization for 4K and ultra-widescreen monitor support, the remaster also includes environmental effects like heat haze and dust, re-modeled building and objects, re-textured units and high-resolution campaign maps. Map rotation and wider zoom have been added to the campaign’s camera. While in Battle, a new tactical map and unit displays provide more control over one’s army.

Sixteen previously locked factions are also available, providing a total of 38 factions to play with. A new agent type and the option to sent merchants across the world have also been added. Total War: Rome Remastered includes the base game and the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion DLC along with Rome: Total War Collection. Each entity is unique in their own ways, from Nurgle’s plagues to Khorne representing blood and slaughter. However, watching over the boundary between the human realm and Realm of Chaos are the kingdoms of Kislev and the empire of Grand Cathy. How will they deal with the Chaos threat, especially when an “ancient figure” is seeking power?

There are hints of other joining with this figure to cause havoc or standing with the forces of good to fight it. Pre-orders are currently available and net the free “Race Pack” DLC. The Creative Assembly continues to support a number of different Total War games, including the recently released A Total War Saga: Troy. However, its next title is already seemingly in development. The developer released a new, unnamed teaser trailer that potentially hints at what it could be. Check it out below.

The most obvious guess is that this is Total War: Warhammer 3. The developer confirmed the title’s existence back in September 2019 and noted that it was “deep in development.” An announcement could be coming up, perhaps at The Game Awards 2020 in December (though it could likely happen before, as well).

Total War: Warhammer 2 launched in 2017 and has seen strong support from the developer ever since with expansion packs, free updates and much more. The question now is whether Mortal Empires – which collects all of the different factions into one big battle for supremacy – featuring all three games in the series would be possible. The Creative Assembly’s A Total War Saga: Troy released yesterday on the Epic Games Store. Unlike past titles, however, it’s completely free for the first 24 hours of release. The developer is now reporting on Twitter that it’s had one million downloads within the first hour of the giveaway.

This is pretty crazy, though one to wonder what kind of return it’s getting. The giveaway, along with the timed-exclusive deal with the Epic Games Store, was done to help grow the series’ audience. A Total War Saga: Troy will have DLC so perhaps revenues from that and the deal with Epic Games will cover costs in the long run.

In the meantime, anyone with an Epic Games account can claim the game for free. A Total War Saga: Troy is focused on the Trojan War as heroes like Achilles battle with the likes of Paris and Hector. Along with the return of duels, the strategy game features mythological units but presented in more realistic fashion.
