Set in a fantasy world, players can choose from a Warrior, Archer and Mage to engage in real-time combat and ride dragons.

Gamera Game has announced a new third person action RPG set in fantasy medieval times called Arise of Awakener. Announced at Tokyo Game Show 2021, it’s developed by Taner Game and slated to release in 2023 for PS4, PS5 and PC. Check out the first trailer with early development footage below.

Arise of Awakener offers three playable characters (though they sound more like classes – Warrior, Archer and Mage. Along with fast-paced hack and slash combat against all kinds of foes, players can also ride on dragons. As many have pointed out, there’s a kind of Dragon’s Dogma vibe with how aggressive the combat is, whether you’re a Mage or Warrior.

There are towns to explore to explore, chests to loot, resources to collect (and mine) and much more. And if riding on a dragon, flying over the landscape isn’t your thing, then you can still engage in mounted combat on horseback. More details are definitely needed though so stay tuned in the coming days.

In between turn-based tactical battles, players will have to vote on key decisions. Your allies may betray or turn against you, based on the results.

During its recent Tokyo Game Show showcase, Square Enix revealed a new trailer for Triangle Strategy, its upcoming HD-2D tactical RPG. It showcases the various circumstances that can result based on decisions made, from allies turning on the player to broken relationships. There’s also a fairly good overview of each character. Check it out below.

Triangle Strategy is set in Norzelia, a land of three kingdoms and while they may be at peace, war suddenly breaks out. This causes Serenoa of House Wolffort to become involved, battling foes in order to ensure victory. Depending on certain decisions, the entire party will cast their votes using the Scales of Conviction. Depending on how you want a decision to go, it’s important to converse with allies beforehand.

The strategy RPG gameplay is also fairly compelling, emphasizing high ground control, flanking and elemental reactions to overcome foes. Triangle Strategy is slated to release on March 4th 2022 for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

Malzeno is the latest Elder Dragon to join the game while "several" monsters from previous titles, like Shogun Ceanataur, are returning.

Capcom’s big paid expansion for Monster Hunter Rise, Sunbreak, received some new details during its Tokyo Game Show 2021 news program. It confirmed that the new monster seen in the debut trailer is Malzeno, an Elder Dragon. How its abilities work will be revealed later though.

The new expansion’s content is accessible after beating the Serpent Goddess of Thunder 7-star quest in the base game. Players will essentially venture from Kamakura Village to a new base and access new locations, including the previously seen castle ruins. Master Rank is making a return from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, adding a new difficulty level for players to overcome (and perhaps indicating the return of Master Rank weapons and armor).

“Several” monsters from previous games are also making a return in Sunbreak with Shogun Ceanataur being showcased. This is a Carapeceon monster with a giant skull on its back that attacks with its giant pincers. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is out in Summer 2022, launching simultaneously for PC and Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.

A new trailer has been released which showcases the two new Monsties – Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos – in action. Check it out below.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is currently available for PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out our review of the base version here.
There will be an invite-only part of the show for media, however.

Last year saw the COVID pandemic reek havoc on live events. Almost every major show or convention was either outright cancelled (such as E3) or replaced with some type of digital alternative. With COVID vaccines rolling out worldwide, the hope is that we’ll be returning to some type of normal relatively soon. However, it does seem as if the major shows in the gaming world are still hedging bets, as the Tokyo Game Show will once again be online only.

As announced by CESA, Nikkei and Dentsu, the the 2021 edition of the show will follow last year’s format and will be held over the course of four days and be broadcast via YouTube. This year will also be broadcast in English and include simultaneous interpretation. There will be a physical aspect of the show, however, as press and other media will be invited to the usual venue for the show, Chiba’s Makuhari Messe. Though nothing is explicitly stated, considering the nature of event, it most likely means that will be restricted to Japanese media. This also follows the recent cancellation of the physical event PAX East 2021 and transition into an online only event.

Tokyo Game Show 2021 will start on September 30th. We’ll keep you updated as more information on the event’s schedule is released.
