In an investor relations Q&A, the publisher said it's "currently putting together plans for our pipeline based on demand data from the market."

For as many sequels and updates as Capcom has released for games like Monster Hunter, Street Fighter and Resident Evil, there are a fair number of older IPs that have been less fortunate. Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Lost Planet, Dino Crisis and even Dead Rising are a few such examples. Nevertheless, there’s the possibility that they could be revived down the line.

In an investor relations Q&A following its FY2021-22 financial results, the publisher was asked about plans to utilize its “dormant IP.” It replied, “We are currently putting together plans for our pipeline based on demand data from the market. Going forward, we will continue to take customers’ wishes into consideration while devising our title lineup.”

So while this isn’t a guarantee of long-awaited sequels finally coming to light, it seems that Capcom is at least evaluating the demand for the same. The company has a number of new IP in the works like Pragmata and ExoPrimal which are both slated to release in 2023.

In the short term, it’s looking to release Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak on June 30th for Nintendo Switch and PC, adding several new monsters along with a new region, Master Rank Quests, and new weapons and gear. Story DLC for Resident Evil Village is also in development though no release window has been given for the same. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.

These titles looked simply jaw-dropping back in the day.

Back when the Xbox first entered the industry and Sony was building up the PlayStation 2, Nintendo made its mark in a unique way. Eschewing DVDs in favor of proprietary miniDVDs and utilizing a box-like design with a handle, the GameCube was something special. It didn’t skimp on the powerful technology, producing some truly amazing games that still stand out. Let’s take a look at 15 such games here.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2

Of the many titles that convinced fans of the GameCube’s power, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 2 sits near the top. Improved texture work, more detailed ships and increased draw distance all provided substantial upgrades over its predecessor. But it was the addition of bump-mapping that provided that extra bit of oomph, pushing photo-realism that much closer to the films. Even if you weren’t a Star Wars fan, Rogue Squadron 2 had to be seen to be believed.

Not all gems see the success they deserve.

There’s no shortage of excellent games in the PS2’s legendary library, but a byproduct of that is that not all of these excellent games saw nearly as much commercial success as they deserved to. For a variety of reasons, there were several titles on the system that just didn’t sell very well, in spite of being really good games. In this feature, we’ll take a look at fifteen such games.

OKAMI

Okami is one of the best games Capcom has ever put out – and looking at their impressive catalog of games over the years, that’s no small praise. With its beautiful aesthetic, its engaging gameplay, and fantastic design, it stands out as one of the best games on every system it is playable on. That said, the sales of the game were nowhere near as good as that sort of praise warrants, with only a little over half a million units sold in three years. Hopefully, Capcom decides to give this property another shot, and hopefully, that hypothetical sequel sells better than its predecessor.

Wonder Blue May Cry.

Hideki Kamiya is a rockstar of a game designer- the man has one of the most impressive resumes in all of gaming, what with him having worked on games like Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Viewtiful Joe, Okami, God Hand, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101, and the upcoming Scalebound.

Sadly, however, he doesn’t actually own the rights to any of his games- Bayonetta is owned by Sega, The Wonderful 101 by Nintendo, Scalebound by Microsoft, and everything else by Capcom. Nevertheless, with Platinum being essentially freelance developers, fans continue to hold on to hope that he will one day return to making new games in franchises that he once helped kickstart- a sequel to Devil May Cry, maybe, or to Viewtiful Joe.

And fueling this speculation is a new series of tweets by him, which asks fans which of his games they would like to see a sequel to, and which character they would like to see in a hypothetical spin off. A lot of these games listed are brands still owned by Capcom, with whom Kamiya had an acrimonious split leading to the birth of Platinum- so this hints at some sort of reconciliation in the future, which is something a lot of fans would love.

Which of his games would you like to see him return to?

Capcom alum still holds a soft spot for his former employers.

Hideki Kamiya is a legendary game designer- modern gamers might know him best for The Wonderful 101, Scalebound, or Bayonetta, but his real all star output came out while he was working with Capcom, with games such as Viewtiful Joe, Devil May Cry, Okami, and Resident Evil 2 made on his watch.

His parting with Capcom, which came in the wake of his beloved Clover Studios being closed, was acrimonious- having led many to believe that there would be little to no chance of the legendary developer ever getting to work on his most well known properties ever again. However, in a recent interview with The Metro, Kamiya has said that he has no issues working with Capcom again, should the circumstances ever arise.

“However, I can honestly say that if there’s ever an opportunity, that makes sense for me or the studio, to work with Capcom again I would very much welcome that opportunity. Of all the publishers, not just Japanese publishers or partners, I can say with confidence that Capcom still holds a very, very special place in my heart and I love them dearly. It’s one of my favorite companies,” he said. Getting to see Kamiya working on a new Devil May Cry or Viewtiful Joe? Make. This. Happen.
