The problem is in the game's engine, which is separate from the one used in DOOM.

Bethesda has been one of the strongest supporters of the Switch so far- they’ve brought Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein 2 to the system, not to mention their numerous free to play games, and they have DOOM Eternal announced for a day and date launch with the other versions. Clearly, they’re doing far more for the Switch than any other third party is.

But some of their upcoming games don’t have Switch versions announced- such as RAGE 2, the sequel to id Software’s open world shooter, being developed in conjunction with Avalanche Studios. Bethesda has previously said that they will look into a Switch version, something that Bethesda’s VP of marketing Pete Hines recently reaffirmed in an interview with DualShockers.

“We’ve talked about it, but it’s a completely different engine and tech,” he said. “The nice thing about DOOM, Wolf, and DOOM Eternal is it all uses id Tech, Rage 2 uses Avalanche’s engine, so it’s a different beast in terms of a seamless open world that you can play like that. We’ve talked about it some. Still uncertain whether that could ever work on the Switch.”

Which is fair- and honestly, given just how enthusiastic Bethesda has been with bringing its games over to the Switch, I think we can safely give them the benefit of the doubt when they say that something might not work on the system.

RAGE 2 launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC next year.

EA specifically wants to explore the possibility of cross platform play for Battlefield 5.

Cross platform play has become more and more of a trend in multiplayer games of late, with most of the biggest and most popular games on the market, such as Rocket League, Paladins, Minecraft, and Fortnite all supporting the ability for their players to all play with each other, regardless of what platform they own the game on.

However, so far, major AAA games have not jumped on board the cross platform multiplayer train, even, if you think about it, it really is only a matter of time. Now, EA and DICE may be preparing to be the first to broach that long standing barrier this year with Battlefield 5. Speaking to GamesIndustry.Biz, EA’s Vice President of Investor Relations Chris Evenden talked about how cross platform play might fit the company’s long term strategy, especially given EA’s plans to start pushing cloud gaming.

“We’re looking at key franchises in terms of how we can deliver cross-platform play in a similar way that Fortnite has, especially some of our titles that have a broad and diverse player base,” he said. “The ability to bring PC to mobile or mobile to console can bring family and friends together, and we think that’s an important part of our future development profile. Expect more from us on that front in the future.”

Evenden goes on to mention that “the success of Fortnite‘s cross-platform playability [will make EA look at it] for games such as Battlefield 5″– although, of course, if it happens, we can’t expect Sony to really play nice, given their aversion to allowing their players to play with Xbox or Nintendo players. I imagine it will be PC and Xbox players, or PS4 and PC players. Which is still better than nothing, I guess.

Right now, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds puts all players into a common pool, not letting them select which of its two (soon to be three) maps. That will soon change. PUBG Corp has indicated that it will soon allow players to select what map they want to play on, also claiming that the matchmaking issues that it alleged would come about as a result will not apply, since they have apparently found a way to circumvent them.

This means that for those of you who want to skip the divisive desert map Miramar, for example, or just work on playing on one map to master it, you finally get the chance to do so in game, without having to delete map files from your computer (which some players had taken to doing).

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on Xbox One and PC. For now, the option will be available only on the PC version of the game.

German publisher and developer Daedalic Entertainment is releasing the first part of Ken Follett’s The Pillars of Earth, a video game adaptation of Follett’s best selling novel of the same name, on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC today. And to celebrate that release, they have released a launch trailer for the game.

The game is a medieval thriller, and nonetheless allows players to influence and even alter the events as they unfolded in the books. This should actually be a cool experience for fans, because now they get to experience the story from a new angle and perspective- or they get to stay true to it if they want, too.

This is only the first part of the game, with seven chapters- parts 2 and 3 are yet to come. We are promised more details for them at Gamescom, but we do know that if you get the first part, you’ll get the next two for absolutely free. Whoo.

Is this ride ever going to end?

Earlier today, we reported that Konami had confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5‘s episode 51 was not going to be the ending– which begs the question as to what the datamined Chapter 3 card that has been so widely circulated since last year is.

With the Definitive Edition now having been confirmed to not have any extra content, most MGS fans at this point have given up hope that The Phantom Pain‘s missing content will ever see the light of day. However, just because it does not have any extra content does not mean that it will not have Chapter 3- which may sound contradictory, but Robert Allen Peeler, Online Community Manager for the Metal Gear franchise, has hinted that Chapter 3 may be nothing more than nuclear disarmament, a widely known endgame goal of The Phantom Pain since last year, on Twitter. In response to a fan trying to speculate on what Peeler may have meant, he also said ‘the simplest answer is… the correct one, no need to overthink it.’

On Reddit, he also said that the team sees no reason to remove the datamined Chapter 3: Peace card at this point, since it’s so widely in circulation anyway. Speaking about what would happen if disarmament was achieved, he also said that nuclear disarmament is something that he would like to see happen, but it’s entirely up to the players to trigger that. That said, he did refuse to commit to something actually happening when disarmament actually happens.

Meanwhile, the Metal Gear official Twitter account noted that the development team has no plans to trigger the disarmament cutscenes manually- so if players can achieve global nuclear disarmament, good on them. If not, looks like we may never get to see the disarmament peace ending officially.

Metal Gear Solid 5 is now available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC, with the Definitive Edition releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in October.
