RAGE 2 on Nintendo Switch Still Being Evaluated

id Software hasn't completely ruled out the open world FPS coming to Switch.

RAGE 2

id Software made waves with DOOM Eternal at QuakeCon 2018, impressing us with gameplay footage and new mechanics like Invasions. However, its other title, RAGE 2, which is being co-developed with Avalanche Studios, also received some compelling new footage. The open world, convoy assaults, and overall story were showcased, and looked pretty good by all accounts.

While DOOM Eternal will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on the same day as other platforms, RAGE 2 is still up in the air. That being said, id Software studio head Tim Willits isn’t outright denying a potential release. Speaking to Variety, he revealed that the team is “still evaluating” whether a port is possible.

“We’re looking at the tech on that right now, and we’re still evaluating that,” he said. “We stream everything, and we’re just looking… because everything is open, everything’s available, so there are no level loads. We are looking at that now, but we don’t know.”

As it stands, RAGE 2 may have to be significantly downgraded or changed to run properly on the Switch, but never say never. It’s currently slated to release for Xbox One, PS4, and PC in Spring 2019 and will look to realize the promise of the original game. Sadly, mod support won’t be available at launch, but that could arrive sometime in the future.
