Tales of Arise – New Combat Details, Ultimate Edition and Pre-Purchase DLC Revealed

Boost Attacks and Boost Strikes are some of the new mechanics for battle.

A wealth of new information has been revealed for Bandai Namco’s Tales of Arise courtesy of Famitsu. The new gameplay video provided our first look at combat, which seems to incorporate elements from Tales of Berseria while introducing some new mechanics. While players can still combine different “secret techniques” into combos, combat has been rebuilt from the ground up to be more “intuitive and exhilarating” while having enhanced motion and effects.

Along with Soul Charge returning, there are new Boost Attacks and Boost Strikes. The former is a support action which allows for other party members to instantly attack. Boost Strike is a final blow of sorts where two characters unleash a special attack together. This can change depending on the two characters utilized. There’s also a greater emphasis on evasion as players can evade most enemy attacks. Difficulty setting and auto functionality are still in place for those who need it though. You’ll also return to the field immediately after battles.

Details on the Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate Editions were also provided. The Standard Edition includes only the game while the Deluxe Sound Edition has the battle BGM and game included. The Deluxe Costume Edition includes the game, Costume Premium Pack and three costume sets. The Ultimate Edition collects all of the above content together. There’s also pre-purchase DLC that will provide new costumes for Alphen and Shionne along with different one-winged attachments, cooking recipes and ingredients.

There’s also the Asobi Store Collector’s Edition which includes statues of the two protagonists, a large art book, the game, two metal pin badges, two sticker sets, an acrylic figure with a background and five post cards. All of this is included in a special package. It’s unknown whether this, along with other physical editions, will release in the West.

Tales of Arise is currently slated to release on September 10th worldwide for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
