The Callisto Protocol Launches on December 2, Cross-Gen Release Confirmed

A new trailer for the upcoming survival horror game shows brutal glimpses of its terrifying enemies, the game's story, and more.

The Callisto Protocol’s developer has been insisting that the Dead Space-inspired sci-fi survival horror game is going to be a moody and terrifying game in all the ways that genre fans would want it to be, and if the game’s newest trailer is anything to go by, it looks like it’ll live up to that billing.

The recent State of Play presentation saw publisher Krafton and developer Striking Distance Studios showing off The Callisto Protocol in full for the first time since its announcement. Proper gameplay was shown off, showcasing various environments, characters, and most important, terrifying monstrosities and nightmarish creatures.

Brutal, bloody combat will clearly be a core component of the experience here, and based on this trailer, it seems like it’s going to be quite gory indeed. As per a PlayStation Blog post accompanying the game’s newest showing, the game will “seamlessly blend melee combat and gunplay”, with combat revolving largely around GRP, which is “a unique gravity weapon.”

“Black Iron guards use the GRP to control the prison population, but it also allows Jacob to get creative in how he battles the Biophage,” Glen Schofield, CEO of Striking Distance Studios explains. “Players can freeze a rushing enemy in their tracks, or even throw Biophage into a nearby turbine fan or environmental hazard to escape a seemingly dire situation.”

Meanwhile, it’s also been confirmed that, as per recent reports and contrary to what was initially announced, The Callisto Protocol is going to be cross-gen game, while a release date has also been announced- and yes, it’s out this year, as Krafton has insisted.

The Callisto Protocol is out on December 2 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
