The Division 2 Performance Fell Below Ubisoft’s Expectations

The looter shooter hasn't been as successful as Ubisoft was hoping.

Ubisoft’s come bearing plenty of bad news for itself today. In a recent conference call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot went into detail on the disastrous launch of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and the game’s critical and commercial failure, which also led to them delaying number of major upcoming games. But that’s not all.

Apparently, The Division 2 also has not performed as well as Ubisoft had been hoping it would. During the conference call, Guillemot admitted that Ubisoft “did not fully deliver” on the game’s potential. Meanwhile, in a press release, the publisher also that revenues have seen a “sharp decline”, which has mostly been driven by Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and, interestingly enough, “to a lesser extent, The Division 2.”

This is surprising news, because up until now, by all accounts, the looter shooter had been performing very well. Even though its launch sales on consoles had been below expectations, it wasn’t too long ago that Ubisoft claimed that The Division 2 was 2019’s best-selling game globally. Unlike Ghost Recon Breakpoint, The Division 2 was also well-received at launch. To hear that it’s still not performed as per expectations comes as a bit of a surprise.

The Division 2 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft recently rolled out Episode 2 of its post-launch content, adding new missions, a new Specialization, loot system changes, and more.
