Moving away from the wintery urban jungle of New York City to the overgrown post-pandemic remains of Washington D.C. has been big step for The Division, something the developers themselves have said has allowed them to have much greater variety in the game’s map in more ways than one. But just as they did with the first game’s setting, so too are they looking to have a perfect recreation of D.C. in The Division 2, while also making sure that recreation adheres to their post-pandemic world.
In a new video released by the publisher, members of the development team – lead environment artist Chad Chatterton and IP researcher Cloe Hammoud – talk about the process of creating The Division 2’s setting, which involved not only making sure that the game’s version of the city mirrors its real life counterpart, but also that extensive research was conducted to decipher how the city would look in the sort of hypothetical disaster scenario that the game presents. The end result is an immaculate level of attention to detail- take a look for yourself below.
The Division 2 launches worldwide tomorrow for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
