The Division: PS4 Version Made Up 85 Percent Of Sales In Japan

Xbox One version sold just 1,000 copies.

Since it’s launch, The Division has been a very popular game. It’s been fun enough to play that one player has already hit level 99 in the Dark Zone, despite the fact that title has only been out for a matter of days. The game has been much sought after all over the world, including Japan where Media Create reports the title has sold more than 80,000 copies of the PS4 version since it’s launch.

While those 80,00o units sold managed to keep the game on the top of the Japan charts for another week, it isn’t all good news. We’ve known for a while that the Xbox One isn’t remotely popular but every time a new game launches on both consoles, Microsoft succumbs badly to Sony’s home court advantages. Media Create’s latest top 50 rankings shows the Xbox One version of The Division didn’t even make that list. Adding insult to injury, the company announced just about 1,000 Xbox One versions found happy homes in Japan.

What does that mean for Ubisoft and The Division? Among other things, it means more than  85 percent of the game’s total sales in Japan were on the PS4. With statistics like that, it’s not surprising why Sony is winning the console war so handily. It also means that Ubisoft has a bonafide hit on its hands when you take into consideration these kinds of titles don’t always have a great deal of success in Japan. In contrast, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege sold just 23,000 copies in its first week on the market and has hit just over 87,000 so far. In other words, The Division almost sold as many units in its first week as Rainbow Six Siege has sold in several months.
