In a few hours, we will be getting our first ever look at Metal Gear Online 3, the online component of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Hideo Kojima has already confirmed that MGO will be different from the mother base infiltration mechanics which was showcased during this year’s Gamescom.
As usual, we are expecting tons of new information for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain during and after The Game Awards. However, another interesting addition has been revealed by Geoff Keighley, the producer of The Game Awards. Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland, who took over from David Hayter to voice Big Boss, will be also be present at the event. Keighley confirmed this via a tweet a few moments ago. You can check out the tweet below.
Lots of surprises tonight. One of them: Kiefer Sutherland (@realkiefer) joins us tonight in Vegas! #TheGameAwards pic.twitter.com/gVnrJAlAo5

Sutherland is a well known personality on the big screen as well as on television. His work in 24 has been recognized internationally. Obviously he is not going to demo Metal Gear Online with Kojima. So why is he there? Our assumption is that he will be announcing the release date of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. He has already done something similar when he announced a special offer for those who pre-order the game at Gamescom so this is not a wild assumption.
Hideo Kojima has always been a fan of Hollywood work and actors, so what better way to announce the release date via a well known personality like Sutherland. The game is rumored to launch in Q1 2015, so what better time and moment to announce the launch day? The Game Awards is the perfect occasion and Sutherland is the ideal candidate to give this release date announcement the massive publicity it deserves.
