The Last of Us 2 Voice Actor Talks About “Heavy” Scene Recording Session

Ashley Johnson talks about shooting "some heavy, heavy stuff".

Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann had recently referenced a “heavy” recording session for the upcoming, eagerly anticipated The Last of Us Part 2, suggesting an emotionally complex and draining scene of the kind that the first game was so full of. Now, voice actor Ashley Johnson, who provides the voice and motion capture work for Ellie, has also shared her thoughts on the scene on Instagram.

Speaking on Twitter, Johnson noted that Naughty Dog has shot “some heavy, heavy stuff”, before saying that her “body is tired”, but her “heart is full,” then going on to wish everyone a happy holidays.

So, it’s not just Druckmann who feels the scene is emotionally charged, the voice actor for the scene does, too. Of course, that was a given—as mentioned already, the first game was full of emotionally complex and charged scenes, which is one of the reasons people loved it so much. It sounds like the story of The Last of Us Part 2 will be similarly dark and harrowing. We can only hope that our beloved Ellie and Joel come out of it, well, not unscathed, but alive, on the other end.
