The Last of Us Part 2 – Job Listing Seeks Experience with DirectX 12, PC Programming

Naughty Dog is looking to add "new and existing rendering techniques" to its upcoming title.

Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 is coming to PS4 in May and follows the studio’s history of pushing the limits of Sony’s console. However, an interesting job listing for the studio has recently popped up. It’s for a graphics programmer, one who has a strong understanding of “current GPU architectures.”

While this could mean anything, the listing specifically asks for experience with Nvidia CUDA and AMD CGN architectures. Experience with DirectX 12 and Vulkan are also stated along with “console or PC programming experience.” The programmer’s purpose will be to “develop and implement new and existing rendering techniques for our upcoming game, The Last of Us Part 2.”

Several speculations could be made based on this listing. The first is that Naughty Dog requires experienced programmers to possibly port The Last of Us Part 2 over to the PlayStation 5 (which is an AMD-based architecture). The second is that The Last of Us Part 2 could be one of the flagship Sony titles that will release on PC, as rumors have stated for Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dreams. It’s a long shot, but not impossible.

The Last of Us Part 2 is currently slated to release on May 29th for PS4. Stay tuned for more details on it in the coming months.
