New details revealed at Paris Games Week.

Sony and Naughty Dog concluded their Paris Games Week press conference with a bang. The Last of Us: Part 2 was showcased, however instead of focusing on Ellie and Joel, the trailer focused on side characters. It seems that the sequel will place more emphasis on NPC characters and their stories compared to the original.

In a new video released by PlayStation, the game’s director has confirmed that the entire studio at Naughty Dog is now working on The Last of Us Part 2 and game is in full production. The game engine is the the next evolution of the Naughty Dog engine and various assets such as lighting, character pipeline, muscle deformation, rain effects and even facial animations is based on a new framework to get a even more truer performance.

The game is using all the tech improvements the team learned from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the developers are striving to use this new tech to increase the visual fidelity even further.

The Last of Us 2 doesn’t have a release date but it seems that just like the original, it might very well be its console’s last swansong.
