Naughty Dog recently shared brand new poster for the upcoming, eagerly anticipated PS4 exclusive The Last of Us 2, in commemoration of The Last of Us‘s Outbreak Day. As it turns out, this poster has a hidden detail- if you look at the fire near the middle, you will spot a wolf’s face looking out at you.
Now, Naughty Dog is known for subtlety and symbolism, so of course, the internet has gone crazy trying to figure out what this wolf’s face might mean. One theory, as reported by The Wolf Hall, seems to think that the wolf’s face shows up under Joel’s arm; wolves are supposed to symbolize trickery and deceit, which in and of itself might suggest that Joel will deceive Ellie in some form in the upcoming sequel.
Now, as everyone who finished the original gam remembers – and let me warn you, there are spoilers for the original The Last of Us beyond this point, so turn away if you want to remain unspoiled – Joel did in fact lie to Ellie at the end of that game, to keep the knowledge of how he had betrayed the Fireflies to save her life from her. Could this new betrayal, assuming it is being hinted at, be as benign? Or could it hint at a darker undercurrent of Joel turning on Ellie in this game? I cannot see that happening at all, personally…
The Last of Us Part 2 is due out exclusively on the PS4.
