Supermassive Games of The Dark Pictures fame recently announced that it was working on yet another horror IP, this time by the name of The Quarry, promising a spiritual successor to the studio’s original smash hit, Until Dawn. Ahead of its imminent release this June, the developers have revealed a new and lengthy gameplay video. Check it out down below.
Players start out in a creepy forest in pitch-black darkness, and shortly after, the car the protagonists are in is run off-course into the wilderness, which then kickstarts a horrifying chain of events. The gameplay, much like The Dark Pictures and Until Dawn before it, relies heavily on the use of quick-time events.
There are also dialogue choices and the typical choice and consequence stuff that Supermassive’s formula has become known for. Meanwhile, the visuals look very crisp, largely thanks to high-quality facial meshes and spot-on motion capture. The voice acting is also similarly high-quality throughout, which isn’t so surprising, considering how much the appeal of these types of games rely on compelling visual presentation and storytelling.
The Quarry launches on June 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
