Although the difference is no longer as acute as it used to be, the fact of the matter still remains that for a lot of multiplatform releases, the Xbox One versions inevitably output on a much lower resolution than the PS4 does. One of the games that will output in lower resolution on Xbox One is The Witcher 3, which hits only 900p on Xbox One compared to PS4 version’s 1080p.
However, in a new trailer for the Xbox One version of the game released today, CD Projekt RED revealed a new dynamic scaling feature that can let the game match the PS4 version’s 1080p resolution, at least in most circumstances.
“The video you’re now watching is grabbed directly from an Xbox One console. We’ve been working to give gamers an even better experience on Xbox One and, on day one, we’ll bring you dynamic scaling from 900p to 1080p,” the studio said in a statement.
“We’re not much more than a week before launch, but we’re still fighting for every line of code,” it added. “We want gamers to get the best possible experience we can deliver.”
All in all, the dedication that studios have to eking out the maximum possible performance from Microsoft’s newest console is admirable- and there remains no doubt that, yes, The Witcher 3 does indeed look pretty good on Xbox One with dynamic scaling enabled too.
